AutoNews: BMW January US Sales Drop 22%

BMW U.S. vehicle sales drop 22 percent in January

Automotive News | February 5, 2008 - 3:00 am EST

FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- German carmaker BMW said group vehicle sales fell 22 percent to 16,935 in the United States in January but said it expected retail sales there to rise slightly in 2008 compared to last year. "Sales were impacted by lower than normal inventory levels due to a very strong retail performance in December and high demand for all-wheel drive models," BMW of North America said in a statement on Monday.

BMW brand sales were down 26.7 percent to 14,475 vehicles, compared to 19,761 vehicles sold during January 2007, BMW said.

BMW "brand" refers to just that. BMW sales as whole include MINI.

Mercedes sold 18,275 in a record January. I wish Cadillac was up there a little higher

Re: AutoNews: BMW January US Sales Drop 22%

I know there could be multiple reasons for BMW's slow month, but one reason that is unmistable is the fact they are pricing their cars rediculously through the roof. You can't get a decent 3 series for less than 40k, and it wasn't too long ago they started at 27k and you could get it nicely equipped for less than 35k.

They can price the 5's and 7's however they want, but the 3 series should have been kept to the low 30's. BMW is no longer worth it. Yes, they still handle magnificently, but their interiors have been cheapened out and if they could get away with it I bet they'd charge extra for air conditioning.

Re: AutoNews: BMW January US Sales Drop 22%

You know, it's interesting. I ride by my Cadillac dealership and they can't keep the CTS in. They literally last a few days. They don't have many STSs either because they didn't sell well the last 2 years and now with the MCE people now want the car and they didn't order enough.
Just think what the SRX would have done with the 3.6 DI and 6speed.

I think Caddy is having the same inventory shortage that BMW wants us to believe they are having.
