Well I mean it's very very hard to say and basically like flipping a coin but my guess is that the Japanese won't be able to support their auto industry and as China gets bigger and the dollar declines it will become much cheaper to do business in America so most of the brains will move back here and they'll be left without manufacturing OR engineering in Japan. Honda may exist but it may end up being a mostly American company.

I actually agree that HONDA might become fully american they were mulling it last few years, although that wouldn't mean gone they would actually still be here and succed

TOKYO -- Soichiro Honda, the blacksmith's son who applied his mechanical gift to motorcycles and later to the small cars that fit the bill of the energy-conscious 1970s, died of liver failure yesterday at a Tokyo hospital. He was 84.

Honda Motor Co., which he founded in 1946, now is Japan's No. 3 car manufacturer. In the United States, where it began production in 1982, it ranks fourth, after General Motors, Ford and Chrysler.

Mr. Honda had been top adviser to the company since he retired as president in 1973.

Been here for 64 years and no signs of slowing down

Re: Where will Honda be in 101 years?

Let's see...

Honda is just a moderate sized "car company" that researches, designs, develops, manufactures, and sells automotives ... a wide assortment of engines, generator sets, lawn/garden equipment, motorcycles, jet aircraft (one of the fastest and most fuel efficient), and I'm certain I have probably missed a few things.

Yup, you are probably right such a stagnent, self limiting, uncreative, inefficient company can not possibly last much more than a few more years! Scarcasm!! just in case it wasn't obvious ...

Honda will be long gone in 101 years! World War III is coming, after all.

Of course, in 2063, Zephram Cochran will make the first Warp Flight...

Don't worry ... the tease was just a generalized attempt to be funny.

BTW, the Honda motorcycle in another thread brought to mind something I saw a few days ago ... Honda has developed a DCT for their motorcycles. It is a neat looking compact package! I'm guessing from memory, it was probably not much more than 250 mm cubed. It appeared so small that it certainly could not weight very much.

The question is how much torque will it handle ... and how many speeds does it have.

Maybe some variation will show up in vehicles like the Fit, maybe the Civic, in a few of years.

I do not doubt that somehow they will incorporate this into their vehicles they always do! I saw that as well it it very interesting to see how that pans out

Re: Where will Honda be in 101 years?

Will Honda be here 101 years from now? It's way to early to say, anything can happen.

However, if Honda focuses on what it does best, that is, building well engineered, fuel efficient cars that are fun to drive and generally reliable, that customers are willing to pay a slight premium for, I'd say it's a safe bet.

It's the companies that get too big and unfocused like the old GM and current Toyota that you have to wonder about!
