intermediate Cutlass Supreme coupe proved to be Oldsmobile’s best seller by far, with nearly 151,000 customers drawn to its formal style. V-8 models came with a new standard 260-cube engine. Coupled with reversible swivel bucket seats, and emission battling innovations like the GM pioneered catalytic converter, and you can see why Olds was a top seller!

I find the swivel seats pretty neat... this needs to make its way into a vehicle of today I'm sure it would work well and be very popular with those with difficulty getting in and out of cars.

In the sea of new automotive faces,
there's nothing like the appreciation and beauty of an older model. Let's represent!

I bet they would go over big time but cost factor will keep them out of the new cars. With all the power seat options along with the related electric controls for those seats and with the safety standards of today swivel seats could create major engineering problems along with a boat load of warranty claims which GM does not need. I will have to say I would love to have them since at my age it would be a lot easier to get in and out of my cars or truck.

I remember the Monte Carlo had them also...my brother and Aunt had the same car at different periods with swivel seats. The issue with them at the time was they did not lean forward for better access to the rear seat if I remember correctly.

The reversible cushions idea is genius. Just another unsung and forgotten GM innovation. (The 'sunroof' a.k.a. "sunshine turtletop" is another - look at my avatar).

My first car was a 1973 Cutlass S with a red interior and those swivel seats. They were great. Getting into the back seat was a breeze too, as it was easy to swivel the seat out of the way. Not sure if they would pass today's safety standards though.

Didn't all of the GM intermediates have these seats as optional equipment? I thought the Regal and Laguna had them as well.

21mpg on the highway was really good for a big heavy Olds Cutlass Supreme sedan in 1975.

I'm surprised the swivel seats never made a comeback during the height of the SUV craze.

I wouldn't be surprised if no one is really left from the "old" days in the engineering departments, and has innovations like this has been totally forgotten about in the halls of GM.

The Grand Am had the reclining seats (and with lumbar adjustment - this was in '73!) and they did not swivel. Lemans had regular non-swivel buckets. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/pon...e/bilder/4.jpg

Olds an Chevy had the swivels.

i think the swivel seat would have worked swimmingly in an SUV also!
