Restoration Parts

I have two '69 Chevelles, a '72 Lemans Sport and am in the process of doing a '69 el Camino. With the other cars I had factory parts to work with. The el Camino is getting some GM licensed fenders, hood etc. Both fenders needed major work to even bolt up to the car in any kind of normal fashion. Then the fitting began. This is costing me a lot of extra money. I've heard all the horror stories on the www.chevelles.com web site and now am dealing with them first hand. I'm in the process of getting after GM to put the heat on the licensed manufacturers to clean up their act. GM sure puts the heat on the suppliers of parts for cars and trucks going down the line. GM needs to build their image in all areas and they don't need these off shore suppliers burying them any deeper than they already are. Most restorers aren't looking for perfection, just something that is reasonably good.

Does this help? Look under the shop category.....they may be able to get you what you need.

Re: Restoration Parts

Welcome to GMI. There are a few of us into restoring cars. I can't comment first hand about what you have in counter. I am working on a 65 Corvair, and I am thankful for there being parts out there. Have you tried http://www.originalpartsgroup.com/?

Good luck.

Re: Restoration Parts

Keith,

Welcome to GMI! Of what other websites are you a member? You might find some websites dedicated to restoration ... whether it be GM-specific, in general, or even model-specific (other than the one you already noted, of course ).

darndot,

Somehow, I'd missed or had forgotten about your '65 Corvair. Now I wish I had been able to double back and see you on my road trip last October. Ah, well ... someday!

65 Corvair Vert with a 140 Motor, and I have a 57 Chevy Pickup. If you are going down I-57 anytime let me know. I live near the Benton exit.

Keith, We need some picture of your project.

*nods*

I remember you mentioning that when I first posted about my October road trip last year .

Not sure exactly when/if I'll be down that way this year, but I-57 is the route I usually take when I head down to or back up from Jackson/Nashville TN ... so, if I do get there this year, hopefully it'll work out for me to stop and meet you ... and, of course, see your vehicles .

Re: Restoration Parts

Keith, since you are in Ontario like myself, I would suggest Early Birds in Toronto. They also carry A-body parts from Dynacorn (manufactured in Windsor). They also supply a lot of the U.S. restoration companies like Year One, Parts Place Etc. I have a 1970 GTO and they have been quite helpful. I actually just bought a convertible frame for it (privately) that is in excellent condition.
