Re: GM commercials
Pontiac Trans Am:
Of all the generations except the 4A generation (93-97), I liked these Trans Am models the least. This could be for my deep disdain stemming from anything that came from the 80's (product/fashion wise), or just that I thought it was an ugly model Trans Am (but no where near as bad as 93-97), but nonetheless, the Trans Am in the commercial was pretty sharp. Pontiac Grand Am: I had a 2000 Grand Am GT, and my friend had a 1993 Grand Am SE, and it was a decent car, minus the 3.4L engine and the shoddy quality. The 80's models weren't bad, but they definitely made the car out to sound like something it wasn't (a little sportier than it was) Pontiac Sunbird: I wasn't aware Pontiac's market aim was for the maternal figures. My girlfriend had a 1992 or 1993 Sunbird GT in Blue and God that car was freaking sharp. It had the semi-covered headlights (the bar pulled up and back at night when the lights were on). The four door Sunbird was utterly hideous though, and a fair share of the two-doors I still see look like crap. Also. Red interior: PLEASE NO. Buick Skylark: All I have to say is "China". They mention "great American somethingsomething" at the end of the ad, and it makes me shake my head looking at what Buick China gets and what we get in America. They're better than what they used to offer but they still have a way to go. Glad to see even in the 80s, Buick was aimed at those with gray hairs and arthritis. Caddy: How many times did she say "My lucky day" in this ad? I hate to sound stereotypical, but this is a valid question: where I live, a great majority of Caddy owners are African-American. Was that trend as prevalent back in the 80's as it is today? Also, did that Caddy share anything with a Buick, because I swear my Grandparents old Buick had the exact same interior, only they had the class not to pick red. For a Caddy, that beast sure is ugly. Again, this probably just lies in the fact that 80's cars, in my eyes, were the worst generation of cars, cosmetically speaking, ever to leave Detroit or anywhere else.
