Re: FWD X-Cars

I learned to drive on my dad's 1981 Pontiac Phoenix. It was tough to drive. It had its problems. But it gave the family 225,000 miles in 10 years.

That's the best X-Body resource I think I've seen. You've got a great collection of pics there too! Who would've thought you could ever custom-build a X-Body Skylark drop top??

The X-11's are sweet, particularly in notchback form IMO (which is yours....notch or hatch?). I also thought the Phoenix SJ's were pretty slick looking too when they had the graphics slapped on.

This is definitely gonna get a bookmark

Our car didn't have A/C. Just vents. BUT.... the forward facing vents were FAKE!!! So you had to roll down the windows to get air.

It was a good car that ran... and ran... and sometimes stopped running for whatever reason. I definitely don't miss it. We got an SL2 to replace it. And I ran the SL2 into the ground, and it had very high mileage too and literally had no problems. I miss the SL2.

YES IT IS! She currently has around 204,000 kms. I bought her in July 2006 off the original owner. The car had a significant makeover a few years ago including a new paint job and some floor repairs. I've enjoyed it over the time I've owned her, but the time has come for her to move on to a new home. I will be selling her in a few days to a good friend who will take good care of my Citation (she already has two 4 door 85's). I will be purchasing an 85' X-11 MPFI, with only 65,910kms on it! It needs new floors and a few little things but except that she is in great shape. I can't wait!

Here is a picture of the X-11:

And a picture of my beloved baby I will miss your chrome face

Re: FWD X-Cars

Sweet Citations!

Never had one myself, but I know a few people who did.

Interesting that Citations and Chevettes seem to be showing up a bit more nowadays....

Re: FWD X-Cars

I know they probably didn't, but I was wondering if any of the X-Cars were recipients of some of the various turbo engines floating around in the early/mid 80's??

No, at least not in production anyway. There was a turbo concept car that Chevrolet floated around somewhere around '82, I believe. Also, I once rode in an X11 that had been turbocharged by its owner. This was 1986 and with 4 of us in the car, the owner didn't exactly wind it out much, but it was a cool idea.

What a great X-11! I remember looking at a new one on the dealer's lot just like it (same color), except it had the standard steel wheels that you could only get in '85 (which I thought looked great). '85 is the year to have, as far as I'm concerned. They finally gave the car better seats and replaced the goofy vertical radio with the new corporate electronically-tuned radios. Plus the MPFI engine, even though down 5 hp, seemed to be able to outperform the previous carburated engine. I read that all '85s ended up being automatics, and even though the brochure says you could get a 4-speed, I've never seen one. Have you?

Re: FWD X-Cars

Haha I love those pictures! There were so many different body styles acorss the brands... I liked the Buick versions... my uncle had a notchback Skylark, and I thought that it looked quite sharp... a perfect baby Buick from the era! It's so cool that you could get a V6 in a car that size.

The OmegaSport on your website is beautiful, as is the yellow SX! I didn't know there was ever a 4-door sedan Skylark... these care were even more prolific than I thought! Glad you're there to keep them living on!

Re: FWD X-Cars

I loved the Phoenix coupe, especially the LJ or SJ models with the two tone exteriors. They had such a nicely proportioned and crisp look to them.
