Camaro's first television commercial

Also known as the volcano ad...
First released during movie theater intermissions...then shortened and released on tv.

Its wicked cool.

Re: Camaro's first television commercial

Ha! I'm sure this would give current GM marketing staff a laugh, but it's from a different time. With those special effects that Camaro might as well been some monster Captain Kirk was preparing to fight. Another thing, though it may be the way it was filmed, the Camaro looks long and boaty. Other first gen Camaros I've seen don't look so large.

Yep, it did make it look very barge-like, but when you're shooting video inside the caldera of an active volcano you don't have room to fit the car into the frame with a longs lens. ;-)

Re: Camaro's first television commercial

Wow, were commercials that long back then? That was like an infomercial! I love the voiceover guy's voice, it was funny, and I love the James Bondesque music!

The Camaro was one of the lucky one's to be released before the emissions standards started zapping the horsepower out of muscle cars.

Re: Camaro's first television commercial

The special effects reminds me of a Las Vegas show...very theatrical.

I like when the show the front of the car for the first time...its like the rumble of the engine shakes down off the rocks....

I must have watched this clip about 30 times.
