76 Fleetwood Literature

I have a 76 Fleetwood Brougham. I am looking for advertising literature relating to the car. I have only found one pic on GM Store, 2 sales brochures which are Full Line and a postcard. Did Cadillac not advertise the Fleetwoods in 1976 and did they not produce a stand-alone brochure for the Fleetwood including the D'elegance and the Talisman?
Maybe someone here could download a picture, something from National Geographics........... Thanks

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

For 76, most of the ads that I have seen were pushing the Seville, Eldorado or DeVille series cars, as far as I know the only brochures were the large full line and small full line, they really did not make an brochure for the Fleetwood only, and I have all the large Cadillac full line brochures from 1972-1980. Try searching ebay for some Fleetwood ads, I have some old Readers Digest from 1968-1969 that have an ad or two for the Fleetwood Brougham, but those are not for your vintage. Another thing you might want to have is some old road test, I know that Motor Trend did a couple of 2 way comparisons in the 70's between the Brougham, Imperial and Continental, try searching on ebay for some of those. The "Imperial Web Pages" has the article on line.

I am a big Brougham fan too, I am looking for just the right one to add to my collection, I would love to grab and injected Talisman with all the options, except for the ACRS, though I might settle for a loaded D'Elegance.

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

There is an especially nice photo ad of the 1976 Fleetwood Brougham as it turns a corner in a city scene--it appears to be downtown, Anytown, USA--a one page magazine ad. The car is Amberlite Firemist with a White Vinyl Roof and Buckskin Leather Interior and has Opera Lamps. The standard hubcap is shown. The car is shown from the front three-quarter view from the driver's side. There is about 1/4 of the page featuring text. I will try to locate mine, and transcribe the text, as I don't have a scanner to enter it here. It is one of my favorite 1976 Cadillac ads. Besides liking the '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles, I also like the '71-'76 Fleetwood Broughams, with their uniquely longer wheelbases and stately, arched roofs and the formal backlight--epecially in '71, when it lacked the chrome molding around the back window. WOW--Cadillac at the top of its game!!!

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

thanks for your help. I will search for the roadtest. I have downloaded an ad I saw for sale on ebay a while back but its taken with a camera so the end product looks bad.
Do all 76 Broughams feature as standard the chrome on the edges of the rear fenders and trunk edges? as mine has none....
and if the cheapest fleetwood cost 10,000 dollars in 1976, then what is that in todays money? I used a website to calculate this and it says 92,000 dollars?

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

I have never seen that ad, neat. I remember that there was an ad for downsized 1977's that had a blue Fleetwood infront of restaurant with the tagline "Drive one and you will see why we call it The Next Generation of the Luxury Car"

Inflation calculator at westegg.com list $10,000 in 1976 as $36,049 today. I think that in later years the trim around the rear window was painted to match roof color, and if you had a d'Elegance or Talisman, you got a thicker padded top, similar to what the Eldorado Biarritz had, with the "frenched" limousine style rear window.

Lets keep the Fleetwood talk going!

I agree that the "D'Elegance" and "Talisman" packages provided a more thickly padded vinyl top, although not to the degree of the '76 through '78 Biarritz packages. However, my point is that the '71 Fleetwoods had no chrome surround for the backlight (back window), creating a smaller, rear window that appeared "padded" and then in '72 through '76 the standard Fleetwood Broughams had a small chrome surround on the rear window. These cars certainly had a "presence" in any setting, as the ad from '76 shows. The rear seat foot rests, the reading lamps for three of the four outboard passengers and the sumptuous fabrics and leathers of the interiors, along with their abundant space, created an impressive ride for all passengers. Outside, the styling, the opera lamps and the long-low look, all created memorable impressions. Remember the tag line for the '71 Fleetwood Brougham in the brochure, "This is motoring that is respected wherever excellence is a way of life." It reminds me of the '70's Cadillac ad stating, "Wherever important people meet, the overwhelming car of choice is Cadillac!" The '71 and '72 Fleetwoods featured a thin, sliver of body that divided the front from back doors, whereas the '73 through '76 models simply extended the front door to where the back door begins--thus, "cleaning up" the appearance by eliminating a seam/gap area. All Fleetwood models (Eldorados and Broughams) featured "Automatic Level Control" as standard equipment, whereas it was an option on DeVille models. Lastly, I will mention that the Brougham package was an option on Fleetwoods from 1965 through 1970, when a base Fleetwood was still known as the "Fleetwood Sixty-Special" and in 1971, due to the popularity of the Brougham package, Cadillac only offered the "Fleetwood Sixty-Special Brougham." (Well, McGarrett, I've tried to keep the discussion going, and initiate some about a few forgotten details!)

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

I emailed Cadillac.com at the GM archive section and while the website gave me the impression that they had a huge collection of archive on everything GM, they replied by stating that they had no information on 70s Fleetwoods. Therefore I got no information on what date my car rolled off the production line which was Detroit (somewhere there) as stated on the VIN plate. Does anyone know if that factory is still open? I researched online that there were just over 24,000 Fleetwoods produced in 1976. As Im not living in the United States and have never been there yet, were there any promo models handed out by the dealers of a 76 Fleetwood? Cant find any information on Yanns Cadillac site (and I have to say that it is absolutely superb).

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

76.........As far as the Clark St. Cadillac plant. I think it was the only plant producing Caddies untill 12/18/87.
The last Cadillac produced there was the 7,782,466 one.

All Devilles, Fleetwoods and Eldos were produced there at that time.
Heres a pic and some info:
One of the great achievements in Cadillac's long, successful history was the completion in 1921 of what Cadillac considered to be the finest automobile works in the world. Until then the Cadillac was built in 77 different buildings scattered about Detroit. The new plant at Clark Avenue comprised 13 buildings on 47 acres providing more than 56 acres of work space, that is more than 2,464,000 square feet. In the early Nineties Cadillac gave up the latter premises, moving to more modern ones in Warren, in N. Detroit.
(note that this sez untill the early 90s while other info sez 12/18/87....Hmmmm)

EDIT: Yup its wrong....Closed in 87
In addition to production vehicles, the Cadillac Historical Collection includes concept cars, landmark engines such as the first mass-produced V8 engine, and memorabilia from the Clark Street facility in Detroit, where all Cadillacs were built from 1921 to 1987.
AND:
In 1921, the Clark Street Cadillac factory begins production. At the time, it is the most modern plant in the industry. It remains in production until 1987.

Here is the correct place to get details on the "build sheet" of your car--and now they do provide it for Cadillacs newer than 1970--use this link:

http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/authenticate.shtml

I hope this helps! Keep us posted (it took about 5 days to receive a packet including a photocopy of the Databook for my 1971 Eldorado Convertible)!

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

There was a good article in Collectible Automobile about the 1971-1976 full size Cadillacs titled "Twilight of the Titans", it came out a few years ago, I have a copy and Collectible Automobile does offer back issues.

Re: 76 Fleetwood Literature

Thanks for the form. I filled in the relevant information. It appears that if they are doing post 1970s cadillacs, then they should update their website. Already I have found that invoices are for post 1980 and Build Records exclude 1968, 1973-1979??????. I wonder why? Anyway I will email them now and see what happens?

Could someone scan the Titans article as I cant get this magazine where I live and if anyone has the Cadillac advertising Ad I attached to one of my previous threads of the 76 Brougham. I have tried online and nothing has appeared. I will try and see if I can get the Titans ad, I already got the road test of 1974 from the Imperial Website and printed off. Amazing what cyber space can do for us collectors.

Ok i have a few questions relating to the Fleetwood Brougham.

1. What colour should the Fleetwood badges be on the front fenders? mine is a white vinyl roof but the badges are chrome?
Should the rear Fleetwood badge be white as well? Does the word ''60 Special'' or ''EFI'' appear anywhere on the car?

2. How do I get the clock to work? (rather than pulling out the dashboard)

3. How do I get the cruise control to work?

4. How do I get the water reservoir to work?

5. To attach the rear garnish, I need clips but are there two types of clips to connect the garnish to the bottom of the rear screen?

6. Can anyone recommend a good Whitewall paint? My whitewalls are very very narrow.

7. and finally, where can I get the wood effect grain for the steering wheel. Incidentally the steering wheel has a lot of cracks and
most of this wood grain effect is missing

Thanks for all your help, this is a great website.
