'71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
Some of you may like seeing an article about the "last of a magnificent breed," the 1971 to 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertibles:
http://ateupwithmotor.com/model-hist...nvertible.html However, the article is not completely accurate, especially where the author says the last 2,000 had triple white combos--rather, the last 200 were the famed "Bicentennial Editions," with triple white combos with red piping on the Sierra Grain Leather Interiors. These exclusive models are detailed here: http://www.bicentennialeldorado.com/ Here is a nostalgic video of the assembly of the 1976 Eldorado Convertibles at the Cadillac Motor Car Division plant at 2860 Clark Avenue in Detroit, Michigan: There will not ever be anything else close to the excess of these glamorous "land yachts," or the assembly line shown (now its mostly machines putting the cars together!) The completely flat interior floors of the cars, the passenger door opener on the rear of the armrest, the inward folding roof frame, the fiber optic lamp monitors, the automatic level control and the long, sculpted "coffin-nosed" hoods, the 500 cubic inch (8.2 Litre) V-8 engines and the luxurious interiors, options and exterior styling created an unmistakably elegant car! |

Re: '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
The self-indulgent Seventies were great...
Im biased towards the smaller 1970 though... This was (and still is) the largest passenger-car engine ever built for production. The 1971-76 used the same engine but due to its larger size, weight, and tons of govnt emissions restriction it couldnt achieve the flat out craziness of the 1970 Eldorado. Besides my 1970...I would have to say the 76 is my other favorite...it was really the last of the great ones...they truely were the standard of the world That video made me emotional... ![]()

I'm definitely fan of the '71-76 GM full size convertibles. I have a preference toward the Buick of course but I respect the Eldo too

That video brought a tear to my eye

Re: '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
Remember the television program, "Let's Make A Deal?" Contestants actually won several '70's Cadillac beauties, including a few Eldorado Convertibles! As you watch the clips, notice that the Firemist Gold '72 shown looks like it even has Vogue Tyres! Check this out--Enjoy!:

Re: '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
Did You Know....These Cadillacs for most of the Lets Make a Deal show were provoded by Casa de Cadillac in Sherman Oaks...
Thats the same dealership from the first Transformers movie...when Jazz first lands on the roof of the dealership and picks out the Solstice...when he steps on the sign...its the Case de Cadillac neon sign he steps on. Great clip...Those people looked geniunly excited...Back then winning a new Cadillac was like winning the lottery.

Casa de Cadillac is still around last time I checked, it was also the Cadillac dealership used in the beginning of Commando(1985), its there showroom where the hitman kills the Cadillac salesman and steals a brand new black FWD Fleetwood Brougham by driving out through the showroom window. You can see a couple of other 80's Cadillacs in the showroom, plus some showroom displays.

Re: '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
Here's an article discussing the predecessor to the '71-'78 Eldorados, the '67-'70 Eldorado Coupes, with the "milestone car" styling, and they were only less than one inch shorter than the '71 model (which appeared more bulky) that replaced their bodystyles:

Re: '71-'76 Eldorado Convertibles--sublime!
RatPackCadillac, the article is one of the best I've seen on the '67 through '70 Eldorados. Those cars are gorgeous, with phenomenal styling!
Regarding the '76 Eldorado Convertibles, there is still significant demand for these "last of a magnificent breed" automobiles. Here is the link to a dealer that specializes in them: http://cadillaccreampuffs.shutterfly.com/ I'm certain that with the loyal customer base of Eldorado admirers and its owners who encompassed "all walks of life," as mentioned in the article, along with the collector interest in '67 through '78 Eldorados, if a new Eldorado model was introduced (based on the earlier models but updated, similar to the new Camaro design), it would be a great success, just as the new Camaros have been! Go for it, Bryan Nesbitt! Do again what Cadillac always did best! ![]() |
