They say something about not being a neutral person but yet those cars were so...neutral...

Re: 2001 Oldsmobile commercial

The commercial for the "new" Oldsmobile was good, though it wasn't from 2001 like the page says. 2001 was after the discontinuation of Oldsmobile was announced, and was also when the new Aurora had debuted, the Silhouette got a facelift, and the Bravada was close to its redesigned model. The commercial shows the first-generation Aurora and the pre-facelift Silhouette. The whole commercial in general seems more in line with the promotional pictures I remember from when the Alero debuted...and they do feature the Alero a lot in the commercial. I'd say it's a 1999 or a late '98 ad.
I miss Oldsmobile, too.

Here's one for the Pontiac Grand Am from the same related group of ads:

Re: 2001 Oldsmobile commercial

These are pretty good commercials...they are definitely better than some of the GM commercials that they are showing these days.

It was 2000. The Cutlass Malibu was gone and and so was Eighty Eight. Bravada did not change over until 2002, and Aurora was 2001. The demise was announced December 12, 2000. I will never forget it.

The Aurora was an early '01 introduction, since there was no 2000 model. Since it's a first-generation Aurora shown, I'd say it's more around the time of the Alero's introduction. The Alero replaced that Cutlass model. There were 1999 model Eighty Eights but they ended production of those early in 1999.

That was a very sad day.

I will politely disagree with you. There was a 2000 Aurora. I have the catalog at home. The Cutlass/Malibu ran for a short time into 1999. I even have the video at home where it was used in commercials. I am well aware of the fact Alero replaced the Cutlass model. It was a temporary place holder until Alero's arrival. The Eighty Eight was around in 1999, and I remember the commercials. It does not matter when they ended production, but it does matter what was shown on television.

That is a 2000 commercial. The change over to new Oldsmobile was almost complete in 2000. I know because the "Regency" was around for two years after the Ninety Eight died. They started emphasizing LSS. In 1998 and 1999 Eights were in Oldsmobile commercials. I know because I have that at home in my collection too.

It does not matter Aurora was an early introduction. It was spring 2000 because GM sent me the promotional materials. The 2000 model year started in the fall of 1999. So there for it would be a 2000 model year commercial.

I think we'll have to. I'm not trying to accuse you of anything. I'm not saying that it definitely is a 1999 commercial. The Aurora intro does matter, though, since as an early intro they would show the new one. There were 2000 Auroras but I don't think they put too much effort into them (short model year, etc.) since it was about to be replaced. I can't remember when they exactly debuted the new Aurora (as in autoshow) but it would have been early in 2000 and they wouldn't have emphasized the old as much since someone could go online and learn about the new model very easily.

At the latest, it's likely an early 2000 commercial. The facelifted Silhouette came for the 2001 model year and came out during the 2000 calendar year (as most new model years do), but this shows the pre-facelift Silhouette. Also, the names spelled out in circles as in this commercial was used a bit more heavily during the 1999 Alero intro. I think we're both right. I'd say it's more for the 2000 model lineup than for the 2000 calender year.
