LOL Even so it probably still ran even after catching on fire.

Re: 1984 Corvette -

If memory serves, the L69 was only available with the manual tranny, wasn't it?

It was available in both a manual and automatic transmission, here is the breakdown:

1983-1988 Monte Carlo SS - automatic only for L69
1983 Z28 and Trans Am - manual transmission only
1984 Z28 and Trans Am - automatic and manual available
1985-1986 Z28/Iroc-Z and Trans Am - manual transmission only.

You will have to look hard to find a cheaper running Vette in any year. The 84 Vette will never find its way into any museum or collection... it was the lost year... a "turd"
Try to find an 84 in nice shape for $3000. Then get back to us. It costs tons of money to fix up a rat Corvette. I have an 84 with 92,000 miles. Runs great. Absolutely zero problems with the Crossfire engine - ever. Yes, it's down on horsepower but in 84 it was one of the fastest new production cars in the world. It's still a quick car. The 85 had exactly 25 more HP. And as the first year of an entirely new Corvette model there are people who buy them for collecting, and yes there are some in museums. Of course then you're looking at one with practically zero miles. Do you think those go for $3000 too?

nferr,

Very well said!

Also very good point about the 1984 Corvette being one of the fastest production cars in the world back in 1983 and 1984. I remembering reading all the auto magazine articles back in 1983 and 1984 and the Corvette was one of the most liked sports cars at the time due to its looks, performance, and handling.

I can guarantee that the 1984 Corvette will someday will be a much sought after collectors item (they are just starting to climb in price and will continue to do so). Add to that the 1984 Corvette was the first year of the C4 and it has an allure that's hard to describe. In recent years every nice conditioned 1984 Corvette I have seen at car shows always garners lots of attention.

Here's an example of a 1984 Corvette taking home a blue ribbon at a car show (check out the second page too):

Wow. Nice. That 84 in the pictures is the same color as mine. Light blue metallic and they're pretty rare. Mines almost all original - paint, interior, etc. The cloth seats are original but the prior owner put covers over them because he said they have some light stains. I've never looked at them. Could use new carpets but they're not bad at all. Crossfire's never been touched other than routine maintenance. It's been a a regular driver lately. I've put 18,000 miles on it over the past three years. Runs great but it's very stiff with the Z51 suspension package. I'm planning on a run from Connecticut to Yellowstone and back next June. I've always wanted to do a cross country ride in a Vette on mostly two lane roads.
