The interior is NOT a 1968 Pontiac dash!!!

Looks like a dashboard from a 1950's something!!!!!!!!!

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

Oh yea that's a home made looking thing. It's supposed to look like this:

The white part around the speedometer looks familiar, but I can't place it. Perhaps Hudson could determine the donor car.

I will say that hood scoop looks pretty cheesy on that car.

I spy a Chevelle steering wheel.

Or at least GM's popular steering wheel for 1968.

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

I'm kind of surprised that Australian cars never seemed to have column shifters, even way back then and even with bench seats.

I hope the new Zeta Impala offers bench seats and a column shifter. I would think they would upset some Impala buyers if they didn't.

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

My father had a 1962 Pontiac Parisienne with a dash similar to that. That car was built in Oshawa, on a Chevrolet chassis, for the Canadian market. Virtually identical to an ADM Bonneville.

Maybe not, Australia did not then and does not now have the same safety rules and regulations as the USA. Even Canada's are not exactly like ours. So that dash may be the correct dash for that car in Australia. We had the same type of dashboards in the 50s and early 60s before the new safety rules went into effect in the mid 60s. I doubt that a padded dash was required for them in 1968, but it most certainly was here.

We now have airbags required on every car here in the USA, but try to find airbags on a current GM product in Brazil! Good luck on that!

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

Oz had Pontiac Parisiennes and Chev Impalas imported CKD from Canada and assembled by Holden. I believe thats why we had the Parisienne name instead of Bonneville. Prior we had Pontiac Laurentian and Chev Bel Air.
The Oz Pontiacs of this era had Chev 327 V8s in them. I guess it was easier for Holden for spares etc on the small number of these cars sold. The 327 was fitted to Impala, Parisienne & Monaro GTS 327.
I guess you Pontiac nuts are starting to boil at the thought of a Chev V8 in a 60's Pontiac! Here you go, and from a GM factory no less.

I'd say that is an aftermarket floor change and definately an after market hood scoop!

Interestingly, the range went (in order of Lux/Prestige) Holden, Chev, Pontiac. Oz equated size to luxury in those days - some things haven't changed much!

Dashboards were often kept the same for a few 'vintages'. F'instance, I believe that the 55 dash was used in the Oz 55s, 56s & 57s. Not sure if that was also the case in Canada.

Dr Terry would be able to expand on this subject, I'm sure!

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

Many Canadian Pontiacs are Chevrolet based with Chevrolet engines, that is the dash board out of a 1965 Chevrolet, but it is not unusual to see Chevrolet trim and steering wheels in Pontiacs that came out of Canada. Canadian Pontiacs had alot more in common with Chevrolets that were visible to the naked eye, the width of the car is like a full size Chevrolet, not a Pontiac, it is actually sits narrower than a US Pontiac.

I'd say then, that GM-H (or GM Canada?) kept the 65 dash for a few extra years. The Oz Pontiacs and Chevrolets of the 60's were Canadian but assembled by GM-H in RHD.

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

I see alot of old parisiennes around. Most people don't realise what they are at all. BTW there are some tacky add ons eg the hornet scoop and simmons/globe rims.

The dash looks a lot like (though not exactly) a mid 60s Chevy

But then again, all those cars have "fart burners" on them. That "fart burner" ads 5-10HP to your car ;some of those small Hondas can whip a Vett off the line. (from anti-rice.com)
So 115hp+10hp=430hp, at least in ricerland

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

Interesting car. Both the Parisienne and the Acadian where Chevrolet underpinnings with pontiac sheetmetal. The interesting mix and match of the Canadian Pontiacs (and apparently the Australians as well) sure make for some neat, unusual cars.

Re: 1968 Parisienne from Oz

I am guessing that they kept the 65 Chevrolet dash for a while since there probably was not enough volume to justify tooling for a newer RHD dash.
