Sunroof issue part 2

Sunroof part 2

Someone does not like me at all. I have not even made the first payment and the truck is back in the shop with the sunroof problem again.

If you recall two weeks ago my sunroof would not close once it reached the vent position. I took it to a local dealership (not the purchasing dealership because it was getting ready to rain). Well it took 5 days to get the sunroof fixed or so I thought it was fixed.

I took the truck on a trip this past weekend I had not opened the sunroof as I did not need something to happen while I was 500+ miles away. So today on my way home from work I decided to be adventuress and open her up. She opened up much faster than the factory one did. At this point I was thinking sweet, I decided to close it to test it out and it went into the vent position and it stopped just as the last one did. I opened it up and tried to close again stuck in the vent position. At this point I am getting very pissed off I was lie WTF did the dealership not try it out before giving it back to me. I would have tried it when I originally picked it up but I could not be w/ out the truck again or the trip was out so I would wait until I get home from Atlanta.

My dealerships service department was closed but I spoke to my salesman who was able to get the service manager to put it in the shop. So the good news is that it's back at the purchasing dealership the bad news is now I am back at square one with this sunroof. I am starting to believe that either Courtesy Chevrolet did not really change any parts or they did not know WTF they were doing. I hope my local dealership will have better luck.

Well, good luck getting it fixed. I havent seen any problems with the sunroofs in my area so I cant offer any advice. Before you start talking about Lemon Law you should read up on how it works, I havent read anything on it in Florida but in Texas it only applies to issues that make the vehicle undrivable or severly affect the resale value. Here is a link:

If you are interested, PM me the last 8 of your vin and I can see if they made a warranty claim on that repair, that way you can be sure wether or not they actually replaced a part.

Thanks I have delt with the lemon law back in 1992 with my Z/28 the process took 12 months but GM bought back my Z and replaced it with a 94 Z/28. I would rather not go down this road.

The last 8 of my Vin are 61329832

Well the good news is that I got the truck back this morning approx 10am. The 1st dealership I took the truck to Courtesy Chevrolet @ the airport did not hook the sunroof up correctly and they did not test it to make sure it worked.

Holiday Chevrolet fixed it and said if they would have tried to test it they would have found that it was not working correctly.

I picked it up tested the sunroof a dozen times opening and closing all is working well now. I hope this is the end and I can enjoy the truck

Oh, I think I remember you saying something about that before, or maybe it was someone else, oh well.

Anyway I did a VIS on your truck and there are no warranty claims on there yet, but it sometimes takes a while before its posted so we will have to wait. But I guess if it works great, if you want me to check it later let me know.

Re: Sunroof issue part 2

GM does have crappy Sun/Moon roofs. Really annoys me that they can't make one that opens into the roof frame.

Looks like the dealership only use a little WD40 and called it good...If you can try to watch what they do when they fix it...make it a point to be there when they work on it.

Re: Sunroof issue part 2

Hmm, strange. This same exact problem happened to me last night with my 2002 Pontiac Grand am GT. For those of you who don't know, the moonroof for the Gramd Am tilts up and travels over the roof. Well, just like the poster, it won't close after the vent position. The electronics seem to be screwed because it thinks that the current vent position is the closed position and any position after that is vent or open. I'm not pleased with this. I'll snap a shot tomorrow to show what I mean.

Tough times are ahead. A brand new car is not in the cards. My new (to me) 16 year old Accord serves the purpose extremely well. And it's paid off!

Hmmm well thats strange, because my Malibu has exactly that.....one that opens in the roof not on top of the roof. Maybe GM made a mistake?

Yea and all the Yukon's/Tahoes/Suburbans/Denalis/Park Ave's/LeSabre's that slide into the roof were installed by accident too

EDIT: and Envoys and Trailblazers.

I didn't ALL GMs did that...but some do. That is old school thinking...

Why does the 06 Impala still open on top of the roof? For 30K I expect more.
