A suggestion for Onstar.
To whom it may concern,
I had a chance to use Ford's Sync system today and I have to say it was flawless. I was impressed when it talked to my friends iPod, called his friends from his phone at his command, played the ring tones from his phone, read my USB drive for tunes and it did all of that without fussing or any of us having to repeat ourselves. OnStar is missing some big opportunities. For example it could be a central system. Your music could be connected or downloaded to a hard drive and OnStar could retrieve info like genre, artist, title, etc... from a data base. Navigation could be satellite linked through OnStar. Bluetooth could be connected and I want to use my own phone. Why not make OnStar my information service and when I take my phone, OnStar can come with me in a AAA sort of way. When I say "food" or "Gas" OnStar should be looking for it. Better yet, when I have less than 65 miles of fuel range, why don't you go find me gas and tell me when to get it. Oil Change? Point me to the dealer. Keep everything OnStar is now, but give me something I can use. I appreciate you being there and all in case I get in an accident. But let me use you for other things in the meantime. Why is OnStar so reigned in? Why don't you explore offering all of my infotainment services? I would pay $199 a year for all of my services to be centralized and for your protection. But make me want to have it and not just for 1 free year. You sent a rep to my store and I asked him about the evolution of OnStar and he shrugged it off. He made fun of Sync instead of recognizing it. It was like he was trained to deflect instead of acknowledge my questions. You have a long way to go OnStar. I hope you are up to the task of providing what people want. Sync is a good idea, you should expand on it though and train your reps to provide solutions, not further problems.

Ive had onstar for 3 years now and think its great! Some of your suggestions are valid. GM has some bigger hurtles with their power systems to cross first

Re: A suggestion for Onstar.
I got a cool idea perhaps someone might have improvements but here it is:
GM should use Onstar as a music device too, just like coaster said but here is my version GM/Onstar should team up with Apple and basically use itunes and ur songs to be broadcast over satellite so that way you listen to your favorite music when you want, not like XM and not like ur carrying your ipod around. I dunno just thought id throw it in. |

Re: A suggestion for Onstar.
I think coaster.n3rd has some good ideas.
I would ADD the ability to turn OFF the 'Phone Home' part of OnStar. I don't want to own anything that 'phones home' without me knowing about it.

![]() ![]() ![]() I would say that Coaster Nerd makes some great points... I would also add that Onstar should charge on a per minute use basis with a minimal (<$10) per month activation fee... The way that Onstar charges for its service is nuts... And the two tear pricing is inflexible. Throw it open to all services and just charge $0.05-0.07 a minute... The dough will Roll IN! |

Re: A suggestion for Onstar.
I am curious about Sync, I wonder if it will blue screen on me or have some memory dump. Perhaps when it crashes it could ask if you want to send the information to Microsoft or not.
![]() But seriously they could use Onstar for something more then they are, so I am with you on that.
