Manuals/Documentation

Dear GM,
Please start putting copies of the electrical schematics and parts manuals for your cars on the web. You will generate parts sales, and a lot of good will.
Keeping this information secret, or only available for hundreds of dollars, is bad business. I own a 1997 Cadillac Catera (please, stop laughing ...). The local dealership is baffled by this car, and last week they couldn't find their 1997 manuals, so tried to help me using the 1998 one's they could find. The dealer service is $200 minimum, and there is no limit to how much time a debug session can take, and no guarantee that they will find the problem. I am a Silicon Valley electrical engineer who used to work at a Big 3 company in Michigan. If you cultivate a 'can do' attitude in your customers in the service department, it will help you on the sales floor too.

Re: Manuals/Documentation

I agree. I would love to be able to pull up the shop manual for my Vue. The dealership doesn't mind printing wire diagrams and other stuff out for me but it would be so much easier to print it out from my computer at home.

A use at your own risk-disclaimer would be all GM needs to do this. I'd be for it

Why should it be free?If you go on a restaurants web site are the recipes on there for free? Why don't you try walking into a restaurant and asking the head chef for a recipe and see what he says.Unlike most of the import car companies ie Mercedes,BMW etc they provide no info to anyone except the dealers.GM does provide any info you want. You just have to go buy a service manual or buy an Alldata subscrption.
