Don't kill Kappa

I've heard the rumor that Alpha is being considered for replacing Kappa.

Instead of replacing this very strong Sports platform with a sedan platform, how about keeping the Kappa and actually building cars like the TT36 Torana for all markets? Apparently the research has been done.

This vehicle can be built with,
diesel 4 or 6 for economy (and boosted euro sales)
ecotec 4 with manual or auto (entry level sports sedan)
Turbo 4 with manual
3.6L High feature V6 with manual

There you have a entry level sports sedan with a great chassis for handling for an entry level price, plus you can do a 2+2 2 door and 2 or 4 door wagons.

If not, I sincerely hope the Alpha is a very sporting chassis, there is a reason BMWs sell so well.

The solstice/sky production is moving to bowling green in 2012.

With that you can rest assured the vehicle will always be top notch.

With the last three vehicles I've bought, two were chevy's and one was a dodge. The chevys were
2002 malibu V6, drove for 50k miles and had NO PROBLEMS
2004 Trailblazer EXT i6, drove for 40k miles and had NO PROBLEMS
2005 Dodge Durango Hemi 5.7L, What a piece of ****. I'm not even talking nice easy to pick up stuff, I'm talking the kind that takes 1/4 a roll of TP to get your butt clean. Seriously this thing sucks, and don't mention resale value because if I trade it in now, even owing less than 1/2 of what it went for new, I would still owe about 7k more than what they'd give me for it.

So for my next vehicle, it will most likely be a GM. As for worrying if it will be top notch, I'm not worried. I know they have upped their game and I hope they keep it where it's been for a while now.

I would just rather them use the Kappa platform to make some real sporty sedans. Pontiac is your "sports division"? Then give them some real sports cars (2 and 4 doors) with tight chassis, RWD and good handling.

Re: Don't kill Kappa

Kappa is being replaced by Alpha, which is a better platform, since it can make sedans and two seater sports vehicles, as compared to Kappa which can only do the 2 seaters, since it can not be stretched to make a sedan.

Yeah, I would not worry too much. I just hope the next 2 seaters from Pontiac and Saturn look as good as the current models and also come as coupes.

Re: Don't kill Kappa

I agree, Kappa is perfect for small RWD cars. Other than the current roadsters, I'd like to see a small sedan on the Kappa chassis in the form of a new sub-G8 Pontiac.

Nissan did something similar with the Z....but notice how heavy the Z car is.

A modified Kappa with parts from Sigma.

Kappa is evolving into the SWB Alpha, it will be marginally bigger than Kappa.

SWB Alpha will underpin the next generation Solstice/Sky/GT and maybe we will get a 1 Series Competitor from Cadillac on this platform amd maybe even a Sub-Compact Pontiac.

LWB Alpha will underpin the Torana, RWD G6 and RWD BTS, all of which will be about the size of the Last Generation A4. 180"

Did not read my post did ya? Kappa CAN NOT be made into a sedan, that is why Alpha is replacing it, because Alpha can make sedans and roadsters, not to mention Alpha uses Kappa parts , but is a more flexible and can be stretched from 2 seat roaders, to 4 door sedans to even car based CUVs

I hope you are right and it's an evolution where they keep the sporting qualities of Kappa.

Re: Don't kill Kappa

Kappa platform has problems with the rear differential leaking. Several of my friends that owned a Pontiac Solstice have problems with the rear differential leaking. They told me that it's very annoying that a domestic car maker can't even build a low volume product correctly.

Yeah, my mom has a Sky RL, while the differnetial didn't leak, she took it in on Saturday and they installed a new gasket of what ever. So much for GM lowering recalls...

Well, many of their vehicles do not have recalls, or not as many, you can not expect every vehicle to be 100% perfect, it is just mathmatically impossible, because you have to account for human error and other facotrs
