Blazer/Jimmy Suggestion

With the ever increasing concern respecting rising gas prices, CAFE standards and the move to smaller vehicles, I am writing to suggest that GM take the Tahoe/Yukon twins and bring back an economical version of the full-sized Blazer/Jimmy. These were very popular vehicles in past years and provide many of the attributes of a full sized SUV in a smaller, lighter and more maneuverable package. It is a marketing area that no manufacturer covers. I have attached a Photoshop of both a Blazer and a Jimmy to illustrate what smart looking and practical vehicles they could be.

With reference to the Blazer, using the basic Tahoe architecture, this 2-door version would be about 186 inches long; could use the proven and very popular 4.3 litre V6 as the standard engine in 2WD (V8 optional); and adopt the Silverado LT1 dashboard from the new pickups. The rear seat would be removable and use the existing seat and components from the current optional Tahoe 3rd row seat. Weight would be about 4600 pounds, down from the Tahoe's 5200 pounds. It could be available with minimal equipment (ideal for utilities, police, service providers, etc.) or a little more upscale, equivalent to the Silverado LT1 or LT2. Other than some interior and exterior changes because of elimination of the two rear passenger doors, just about everything required is available from the existing parts bin so it could be brought to market fairly quickly. As hybrid development continues, it would be an ideal candidate as a V6 hybrid.

Re: Blazer/Jimmy Suggestion

I'd suggest a small diesel.

The 4.3L engine in the Silverado is less efficient than the 5.3L V8. It's not a frugal engine by modern standards.

Re: Blazer/Jimmy Suggestion

^^^Agreed. The 4.3L in my Sonoma is a huge gas guzzler.
And let's rename the Jimmy if it ever comes back.
