Attn GM: build THIS Saturn, and I'll buy it

This is the next car I want...a Saturn Aura Redline with the following:

DI, 3.6L DOHC, 280-hp V6 (leave the 300-hp version to Cadillac)
6-speed manual
AWD

There would be other minor things I'd want, but if the above 3 are standard the other stuff would not be a deal-breaker.

Oh, and have it sell for around $28K-$29K.

If you build it, I will buy it. I can't afford $40K-$50K for the new Cadillac CTS.

Yes, I have noticed. Both my grandmother's minivan AND my octagenarian neighbor's Tauras wagon have automatics.

I'll be sure to let BMW, Nissan, Honda and VW know.

Re: Attn GM: build THIS Saturn, and I'll buy it

My '03 Mazda 6s came with a 5-speed tranny, as did the '03 Altima SE 3.5 I also considered back then. At the time, Honda did not offer the manual transmission with the V6 in the sedan (though it did appear the next year on the Coupe). It looks like GM is going to offer a manual transmission in the new '08 CTS...so I don't think it's too much to ask to offer it on a Saturn.

I'll say here what I said on another forum. If Saturn were to build this car, it might not sell in huge numbers...but it would generate interest in the car and get people into the showrooms and the salespeople can take it from there.

Saturn needs the Aura to be it's "halo" car, and as good as the XR is, it's not quite good enough. The Redline version I described above would be good enough.

If GM decides not to build it, I'm sure I could find an AWD, manual-transmission-equipped mid-sized sedan elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I think that is what it will come down to. Sucks!

Re: Attn GM: build THIS Saturn, and I'll buy it

90+% of sales are automatic in North America. I hear >50% are automatic in Europe. And with the slate of hybrids coming out soon manuals will only become rarer and rarer. Plus, with fuel economy restrictions, a computer controlled multi-speed transmission can handle things more intelligently than any driver.

I can see a point in about 25 years when no cars are sold with manuals. Even sports cars will have semi-automatics.

>50%? I surely doubt it, even with semis/autoclutch counted in. An automatic car is actually rare around here, save for perhaps large luxury cars.

Re: Attn GM: build THIS Saturn, and I'll buy it

I have only sold 3 Pontiac G6's with a manual trans. There is not a big demand for them. (the mp3 jack in the radio is 1,000 more important and a bigger selling feature than the 5spd).

Re: Attn GM: build THIS Saturn, and I'll buy it

Saturn should be the brand they offer it on though. Pontiac does not need it until they go RWD. Chevy mid-sizers do not need it but Opel produces it so if Saturn is really a link let them have it. It will fit right into the idea of the brand being American with Euro roots. To be honest I think a DI 4 should be standard with 200HP and a Turbo 4 should be the regular sedan motor then the 3.6 should be the redline with appearance package. The two fours can get the 5 speed auto and the V6 can get the 6 speed.

Also the fours will get better gas mileage and still have lots of power.

that's what I was thinking. If I had $28K for a midsizer, I would be in a Legacy GT Limited with a stick faster than you can blink. It is a little smaller than an Aura, but wow that engine is fun.

But when it comes to Toyoduh people are happy to take whatever the salesguy put in front of them.
