2009 Silverado Options, pls clarify.

Why I'm bothering with this, hell if I know. I've been a long time, Loyal GM follower/purchaser. I own a 1995 Silverado 1/2 ton regular cab with a 350, and locking rear end. My wife drives our 2003 Tahoe Z71. I will be looking to purchase a new truck next year. I worked a deal for my step mom to purchase my dad his dream truck, a 2007 Silverado HD extended cab 4x4 with Duramax/Allison. I live, and breathe GM performance, at all levels/brands, but prefer Chevrolet. I've made my posts here and there regarding who, is running the GM truck programs, and why the decisions made are being made, but now I'm more confused than ever.

There are some of us out there that prefer "peppy" trucks (peppy is a weak term Im using here, Im not trying to scare off the GM brass) over high performance cars, ex: cobalt SS, Camaro, Corvette, etc. Its plain and simple, there is a market for people like me, and we wont go away anytime soon.

I seriously thought that when toyota made the tundra debut, that GM would respond with a quick/no holds barred "watch this". Now if GM is entering the HP wars with Dodge (challenger), and Ford (mustang) with the Camaro, then why not give us something to compete with in the trucks? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me, and others. GM has ALWAYS waited for something to happen to react, why the hell dont they take the lead for a change? I really hoped that GM would offer the 6.2 liter in the half ton regular cabs. Some of you may not need all that HP, but hey, when you do, its nice to know its there. Same with the 4x4 option. You may not always need/use it, but when you do, its there. Toyota offers the 5.7 380 plus hp engine in ALL of their 1/2 tons, and can proudly boast about it. WE MUST purchase a crew cab or extended cab to get our 6.2. What is their logic, if any, behind this? Is there a way to get Jon Moss to take over the truck division? For those of you who dont know who Jon Moss is, google him. He is retired now, I believe, but he used to be paid by GM to come up with high performance concept vehicles. But this isnt "all" about performance. I wouldnt consider the 6.2 a "high performance" motor. It will be offered in other cab configurations, just not the regular cab, thx GM. When we found out the 5.3 would not be offered in a regular cab Colorado, I thought for sure that GM had something up their sleeve for the fullsize trucks, and didnt want the Colorado to outrun it. There is a pecking order they use as to which car/truck is the fastest, on down the list. A lil sarcasm here, but its a shame GM is going to stick it to us again by making you purchase a 40k plus truck to get a 400 hp engine.

I've lost a lot of faith in the truck brass at GM.

Peace.

ps. my blood pressure is coming back down, so there may be some edits., oh wait, I just thought of all the Silverado HD info we were expecting.......................#$*^*#$)o(:rolleye s:

Id say that sums it up pretty well. Nobody at the GM truck division really cares what the customers think anymore. The bean counters have started building the trucks.

Toyota does not offer the 5.7/4x4 in all models. Only ext/crew 4x4 models are avaliable with the 5.7. As for 2wd the 5.7 is only avaliable with long bed. (all according to Toyota's website). But that being said, I do agree that the new E85 capeable 6.2 does need to be avaliable across the line. Cause next year the new Ram will have the new HEMI, and I'm sure Dodge will make it avaliable in every configuration.

I have a solution for you! SLP - Street Legal Performance by GM Performance Parts. We can tune a 6.0L ext or crew cab to 400HP and completely change the look of the truck. Here is a white ext cab truck that we have tuned to 365hp (from the 5.3L) with a new grill and fascia, 20" wheels and a 2" lowering kit

You do not have to go nuts on the appearance to get the performance and it is a heckofalotta fun to drive. The "Stage 1" includes dual cat-back exhaust, blackwing cold-air induction and reprogramming and it is all covered under the factory warranty. We are one of only a few dealers on this new program and we have three vehicles done (the other two are lowered Tahoes with ground effects and they are hot).

GM is helping the consumer get some performance but it is not in the business plan to roll it down the assembly line yet.

Where can I get information for programming for a 5.3L that won't void the warrant?

I'd love 365 horsepower. To be honest, my truck is slow.

If you go to the build section on the Toyota website you can build a 4x2 regular bed, regular cab Tundra with a 5.7L. You can't get a "short bed" because it's the tiny bed that's on the Crew Max.

I drove a regular cab 5.7L regular bed and it was a blast. Ugly as sin, but a blast!

Well a regular cab with a 6.2 liter engine shouldnt get any worse gas mileage than an extended cab with the same engine!
