Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

Hey Saturn Steve,

Why are these new incentives necessary?

Why aren't these great new products selling well?

GM needs to Spend more money for TV ads. I can't remember the last time I saw an Aura Commercial, but I've see that silly see-saw Tundra Commercial about a million times. Lets See more ads!!!...and make them a little entertaining so they'll be memorable.

Looks like a good time to buy. I wonder if these incentives will be available in Canada?

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

Toyota seems to have a whole lot more commercials running than GM, and they have far fewer vehicles to advertise. More and better ads will help move the metal, though it's only part of the equation. It's pretty sad, actually, that GM hits a grand slam with the North American Car of the Year, only to have it not sell at the level it should.

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

If these deals come to Canada I may push up my purchase on an Aura.

Aura is a bit over priced on the XR models, this incentive would make it just about right.

That's exactly the problem ... it seems that the Toyota dealers in several locations pool their resources to get ad time and flood the airwaves. GM and their dealers have to fight against the media's bias and overwrought bank accounts.

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

GM suffers from too many models to advertise for. Toyota can run Camry ads like crazy because it is one car. GM has like 7 cars to advertise.

Instead of putting a $1500 incentive on every car, why not spend $500-1000 for better leather, real wood, using leather on the arm rest rather than beancounter grade plastic, adding a locking gas cap, or illuminated mirror, etc. A lot of GM cars accross the board could have a little better fit and finish or richer looking materials. I think if they got it right the first time, they wouldn't have to price cut.

The Aura is surprising, not so much for the Outlook. The Outlook is huge, and 20 mpg is not that great when gas is $2.85 a gallon.

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

I agree Saturn and GM in general need more commercials. I see tons of Toyota commercials and really the only GM commercial I have been seeing recently is the HHR commercial.

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

GM still thinks the same way as they used to. They build better cars, but they still think things like the Super Buicks, or putting side vents on a Cadillac and spewing some marketing BS will sell cars. They are doing better than they used to in the 80s and 90s, but they need a big change of thinking too. Toyota has more money than them, less cars to worry about, no pension problems, etc. Once Toyota becomes #1 in the world GM might never catch them again, unless they change their ways.

Re: Saturn Aura & Outlook Get Major Incentive Increase

As always, Mr. Auto Extremist makes a VERY simple argument for a much more complicated problem. He fails to consider what many here and on other boards have mentioned, cars ike the Aura do not cover the same spectrum of customers tat cars like the Accord, Camry, and Fusion do. Not to mention, can Saturn support the prices of these vehicles, is there a big market for a $40,000 Saturn? Like the commercial says, "That's a Saturn?". I'm not convinced Lutz knows how to develop products for a REAL market, only a journalist market. That's why the Auto Extremist sees marketing as the problem, not the product strategy.
