If it was a rip off, they had very little time to execute the "copy" and put it into production since the LaCrosse debuted in China in early 2006 if memory serves. Personally I think its about as close to a Five-Hundred as a Cobalt is to a 2000 Civic. But my eyes go to the details straightaway. General shape of the front end if you squint and make it fuzzy? Then you're right. And if that's the case with them getting a 500-inspired car out so quickly, we need those guys to help with the reskins and redesigns that seem to take so long here in the U.S.! Re: More China-Market LaCrosse Pictures (HUD, Nav, the works!)
Certainly better than NA's LaCrosse, but nonetheless in need of replacement, especially since it now sits on the side of the Chinese Park Avenue in China Buick showrooms. And after seeing the Chinese Park Avenue and the NA Enclave, I'm convinced the LaCrosse replacement could be a real gem.
And there's certainly more than a passing resemblance to the 500/Montego, as Fiero GT's post nicely points out: similarly-shaped grill, similarly-shaped headlights, similarly-shaped foglamps, similar placement of chrome accents on the bumper, similarly-styled rise in the hood's shape. Certainly to the average car consumer, they'd have a hard time discerning the two. (Of course, I don't think the 500/Montego makes it across the Pacific, but that's besides the point). |

Re: More China-Market LaCrosse Pictures (HUD, Nav, the works!)
I think bringing this over for a temporary fix would be a mistake. Isn't the new Lacrosse supposed to be available for the 2009 model year? If so, shouldn't we be seeing the concept or actual production version in Detroit later this year??? I say let's wait for it and hope it does not disappoint.

I agree, the front and side look a lot like the Five Hundred/Montego, but who cares, it's soooo much better than our Lacrosse

That is a very classy looking Buick. The hood ornament is awesome. Very old school, rich folk look to it. The headlights (all 4 of them) are ugly, but that is about the only negative I can find on it.

Re: More China-Market LaCrosse Pictures (HUD, Nav, the works!)
The interior on the Chinese LaCrosse looks great.
But the exterior, despite nice details, like the type of headlights and taillights, is positively a generation behind anything Buick is selling in US. That grille could be on any vehicle, nothing about this car styling wise says Buick to me. It's about as boring and anonomous as you can possibly get. The new Lacrosse with the new Velite inspired grille looks 100 times better than this, which is about as exicting to look at as a Mercury Grand Marquis. |
