Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
Good to read a glowing review. Has this guy been fired yet?

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
The Cobalt is selling 17,000 units a month with less than a thousand in incentives. They've actually lowered incentives since its launch, as the name has caught on and sales have begun to rise. Looking at that chart, G6 supply is now at a stable level. The Lacrosse is a good car, GM just needs to find a way to get people who are used to checking out Toyota and Honda dealerships before making a buy, to stop in at Buick. After 7 years of no sedan updates, people have forgotten Buick dealerships exist.
Sobe, you can stop with the doomsday preaching in every ****ing topic.

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
I've seen you reference the allegedly slow sales of the Lacrosse in a half dozen topics in the last few days, and most of them didn't call for it. That includes this one. It has nothing to do with righteousness. I might say that your constant attacking of GM's latest vehicles might have some Ford-driven righteousness behind it, though.
Lighten up? You're not really encouraging a fun and light-hearted community when you're constantly pushing a controversial agenda. How is posting about the sales problems of the Lacrosse in a topic showing that some reviewers find it to be better than the midsize class leader anything but confrontational? It's especially annoying when your points aren't even accurate: Lacrosse is selling better than Regal and Century (at retail, which as you've made abundantly clear is more important than fleet-fueled totals), and is doing as good as it possibly can at a time when no one even considers checking out a Buick showroom. The Cobalt is selling at 17k a month with incentives at the industry average, and it's a newly-introduced name, in a segment that GM has NO credibility in, in a highly competitive market. That's a success. The G6, by your own source, is at acceptable levels of supply (though, that is incentive fueled). Ford's not succeeding yet. You and I are projecting that, but it's not a fact yet. If the Fusion flops, Ford is ****ed. If that happens, I wouldn't want all the GM freaks to pounce on every Ford topic, attacking their failure.

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
Wow a review that doesn't sterotype the LaCrosse as an outdated refresh of the Regal/Century. This is excellent. I feel the days of the "benchmark Camry" will continue but not for much longer. Buick, Chevy, Pontiac, Ford/Mercury, and eventually Saturn are all moving in with some great products that can't all be written off. Though Chrysler has great new products none are quite Camry competitors but maybe the new Sebring/Stratus will actually put up a decent fight. I can't wait for the day that an American car wins a Car and Driver mid-size sedan comparo.

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
Interesting that the author felt quickly almost in a position to apologize for, or at least to defensively justify the rating the LaCrosse so high:
"Now this article isn't supposed to be a knock on Toyota's Camry, after all it's a multi-award-winning family hauler that deserves the astounding sales it achieves year after year. It's just interesting to point out how well Buick's new LaCrosse competes, and in my opinion, advances the front-drive midsize class. " |

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
I don't think the Camry has anything to worry about. The base LaCrosse is a disaster. Cheap trim and no leather wrapped stearing wheel. I would take it over a 4 cylinder base Camry, but that's not saying much. Camry owners won't appreciate the Buick's styling either.
It's sad that the Buick LaCrosse used the Pontiac body. It would have been a home run if they would have used the Impala body. Same chassis as the Pontiac but slightly bigger overall. The car would have really had the competition on the run. I know the base Lucern will address this segment, but they could have had a lower price point using the W body. And that name, "LaCross", why on earth use a French name? Electra would have been better. Anyting would have been better. I wonder if they are ever going to drop a 5300 V8 in it? Maybe call it the Grand Sport. |

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
wow. Reading through these posts i am so surprised at how naiive you guys are. The lacross is a 2005 redesign, the camry is 2002, the lacross is a buick, supposed to be higher market then the camry. The lacross has to be better, thats the whole point to justify buying a buick over a toyota.
"wow good article" and "finally the truth has come out". Finally the truth has come out? guys THE BUICK WAS REDESIGNED IN 2005!!!!! THE NEW CAMRY IS A FEW MONTHS AWAY!!! gotta lay off of that GM koolaide people. The lacross was supposed to be a 300 and 500 competitor sheeeesh. btw, now i hear automobile mag is biased, so that ranks it with edmunds, CR, CG, motor trend, caranddriver, autobytel, canadiandriver, roadandtrack, hey wait, i think ive said them all. maybe its time for the REAL truth to come out, that none of those guys (maybe C&D) are really biased, and that for decades GM has produced subpar vehicles and are only now improving which explains why better reviews are only now coming in |

Re: LaCrosse Better than Camry?!?!?!
I really do believe that the Camry is a wonded tiger about now. I've seen artlice saying the Sonata passed the Camry, and now the Lacrosse has passed the Camry. Plus from what I've heard the new Camry is only getting a styleing change, I don't think it will recieve much else, but Toyota does kind of have to rush it on the market since the old one is starting to get kicked around. Only time will tell though. too bad the buick is seen as an old mans car.

Truth hurts?
Sacred cow sacrificed? The older Camry's were better...current one is average grocery getter at best.

Still, a rare complimentary review of the LaCrosse. AutomoBear.com seems to like it quite a bit, too. Shame is, they're discounting 'em like crazy, and they haven't even been on the market a year. Cross your fingers, guys, and hope the Lucerne does really well, or Buick is toast. Last edited by AMcA : 11-27-2005 at 07:58 PM. |
