As for increasing valve size, changing a cam, etc., this stuff isn't cheap or easy when your dealign with mass production. There's tooling (or at least purchasing) costs for even the most simple engine changes. On top of that, all changes need to be validated through thorough testing and certified by the EPA. It's easy for your shade-tree mechanic to do this, as he only has one car to modify. He also doesn't have Unlce Fed regulating what he does to his car, assuming that he's emissions compliant.

A lot of criticism of mgescuro.....
I would bet that he and many of us here, criticize GM and Cadillac because we want them to return to their glory days, with great cars that we would be proud to drive, with advanced tech, great customer dealer experience, great dramatic style. |

Just my own observation here . . .
I think the best part of reading these posts is how well some of you know each other. Obviously I'm a lurker who reads the posts and only makes a few sarcastic comments. Thanks for the enjoyable reading during this stressful time. BTW, in my opinion, Caddy should have the premium motors, but I have no problem sharing platforms between brands. There has to be a happy medium. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: SRX, Equinox To Get 3.0L HF V6
On his first post in this thread I thought mgescuro was being a little over the top but he does have somewhat of an argument.
First I was thinking that if you make an engine more than good enough for Cadillac and put it in the Chevy also then what is wrong? I guess at some point an Equinox owner might come along that is a car freak like all of us and say to the Cadillac owner: "Nice suv, what engine does it have?" and he might say "the base 3.0L V6" and the Chevy owner will then say "Nice engine uh?, I've got the same one in mine!" How's the SRX owner going to feel? Regardless of how nice the motor is he's going to think he's got a Chevy motor in his Cadillac and he might just have paid too much. He might even start to wonder how different the 2 vehicles are and think he got ripped off. Why not give the Cadillac motor something extra? Hopefully once GM gets all their motors out of the dark ages they will start to do this. Perhaps in the next generation of vehicles when ALL the engines and transmissions are already of the latest design and technology (at least meaning no 4-speeds or OHV Chinese made value motors) in ALL the GM vehicles they can work on providing the newest features and engine gadgets on the Cadillacs first and let them trickle down to the other brands. And as they trickle down the Cadillac motors should already be getting something newer and better. Why get personal anyway? Just block him if you don't like his views.

Of course we want GM to succeed and produce competitive products. I get sick of listening to people say they won't purchase American brands because they are American. Obviously, the image issue is still a big one, but the SRX was being bashed here about its base engine.

Re: GMI Exclusive: SRX, Equinox To Get 3.0L HF V6
Good write up and excellent news.
I hope we hear some more definite news on the 2.3L I4 soon. I bet this would make an excellent optional engine in the Cruze, HHR, and maybe even the Malibu.

Most of the time I agree with what you have to say.....but you can afford to spare us just this once. This kind of thing (engines being built by a downmarket brand being installed in upmarket cars) has been going on for quite some time. Cadillac and Oldsmobile owners were squealing about the same thing when Jimmy Carter was running the land! Besides, I would think that someone with your opinions would recognize that engine-sharing is perhaps the least of Cadillac's problems.

Re: GMI Exclusive: SRX, Equinox To Get 3.0L HF V6
I think a lot of you are missing mgecuro's perspective. We're seeing it as , " Oh wow, the Chevy is getting the same engine as Cadillac uses! Awesome!" Where his perspective is, " Why am I getting the same engine that is found in the common Chevy?" He doesn't mind that a similar architecture is in the Chevy and the Cadillac. He wants something to distinguish Cadillac's version of the engine.
Sort of like with Saab. The 9-3 Aero shares the same 2.8 V6 with the CTS( last gen and I believe it is offered in Europe with the current one), but it has a turbo on it. He wants something offered on this new 3.0 V6 in the Cadillac version that you can't find in the Chevy version. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: SRX, Equinox To Get 3.0L HF V6
I agree with GM using the 3.0 and the 3.6 in both Chevrolets and Cadillacs, but I also agree with that Cadillac should have a top of the line engine Chevy doesn't have. IMO, GM should have never stopped working on the Northstar replacement.

Re: GMI Exclusive: SRX, Equinox To Get 3.0L HF V6
These engines are going to really help out in the power and fuel economy department, I wish they had more info on that 2.3L, the 3.0 liter is great, wonder what else they're going to put them in...
