GM hopes new Buick LaCrosse will lure young buyers

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/GM-hop....html?x=0&.v=3

Quote:
The midsize luxury sedan, designed to compete with Acura, Lexus and Toyota models, is key to attracting younger people to Buick, which now seems to be the official car of gated Florida retirement communities.

With a median buyer age of 68 last year, Buick's marketing executives know that time is running out for them to pull young baby boomers, Generation X, and even Generation Y into the fold, or the brand is in serious trouble.
Yep.

I truly hope that they can reinvent this brand and shift that demographic considerably. If Cadillac can become cool again so can Buick.

Incidentally...

According the LaCrosse Details Book...GM expects LaCrosse drivers to age anywhere between 40 to 59 years old...

I would test one for sure if I was in the market. It's a beautiful car.

Re: GM hopes new Buick LaCrosse will lure young buyers

Does anyone under 60 even know where to buy a Buick? Seriously, ask everyone you know under 50 if they would buy a Buick. I asked 2 of my twenty something nephews this last week and they both laughed and said Buicks are for retirees in Florida. One wants a Camaro and the other loves his 300Zx turbo, but wants a GT-R.

Re: GM hopes new Buick LaCrosse will lure young buyers

A couple interesting facts I learned today...

1) Half of the 80,000 Enclave's sold to date have been conquest buyers trading in non-GM products.

2) The average age of the Enclave owner is 10 years younger the the average age of the Buick buyer. meaning about 58.

Re: GM hopes new Buick LaCrosse will lure young buyers

Why do people think that GM wants Buick to have a target age of 25? A NORMAL 25 year old can't afford this..., they average buyer isn't 80, so we should be excited....

Valid point. Buick is not targeting anyone 20 years old. They are going after more of the 30-60 demo.

30-60 is a big group. I think they are targeting lexus ES350 buyers. Which per my unscientific survey, is middle aged women.

There is a LOT of buying power there my friend. Even if they don't do the purchase themselves, which they are increasingly able to do, their husbands or significant others will.

My wife is on the fence right now. She's narrowed it down to the SRX, the Enclave, the Camaro RS, the Lincoln MKX, and now this Lacrosse AWD.

The whole deal is literally hinging on how much she enjoys the Lacrosse and SRX at test drive. Guess whose writing the check?

Very late 40s to early 60s sounds about right. Please tell me it's hitting showrooms in the next few weeks.

Re: GM hopes new Buick LaCrosse will lure young buyers

As an Enclave owner -- and someone who never thought he'd own a Buick -- they can attract the right demographic. The Lacrosse/Allure looks to do that. But I bet the Regal is the one that will pull people in. If you look at the Regal/Insignia and realize what you get for the price point it'll have to sit at -- in and around $25- 30k -- it's going to be a hot seller.

What Buick has lacked is cars that attract younger drivers. It looks like that will be rectified quickly.
