    GM considers revamping Buick logo

    GM considers revamping Buick logo
    11/21/2012

General Motors will explore freshening Buick's famous tri-shield logo, a top executive said.

GM North America President Mark Reuss, in a visit with a group of journalists responsible for awarding the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards, said the automaker might upgrade the Buick badge.

It would be the first redesign for the logo in at least a decade. The badge features three side-by-side shields enclosed in a circle. The logo is currently all chrome, but Reuss hinted that could change, too.

Spokesmen for the Buick brand declined to confirm or dispute Reuss' comments.

Redesigning a brand logo is an extremely sensitive process that can send enthusiasts and longtime customers into a frenzy. But Buick has been repositioning itself as an attractive choice for younger affluent consumers.

Re: GM considers revamping Buick logo

If they did decide to revamp the logo, I wonder if they would incorporate the 'tri-shield' somehow or if they wold abandon it altogether?

Difficult decision to make, but if they do decide to do it, I hope they dont make the new logo some sort of meaningless concoction.

The LeSabre, Invicta and Electra models, which inspired the three shields, have been discontinued, but the tri-shield structure endures.
That's an interesting historical tidbit I didn't know. Perhaps more reason to bring the Electra and Invicta names back if they do keep the tri-shield theme somehow.

It's a good idea to try and come up with something fresh for Buick, but they'll end up with the same logo in Red, White and Blue and pay some design firm millions.

Personally I like the 59 best with the small details, I always thought that the small details like that make it look classier. Curious if they will go into the past or start over from scratch.

I love that attention to detail also. Cadillac and Buick should go back to using those gorgeous logos.

I know a lot of people despise the lack of the red, white and blue, but I prefer it just the way it is. While they're at it, they should re-name Lacrosse to Invicta, as it should have been from the start of the EPII car.

The classic designs look pretty archaic and the 1950 logo looks vaguely familiar.

The existing design resonates with the Chinese because it resembles "888". Given the significance of the market in China, it's a certainty that regional impact will be closely considered.

I think this would be a move to help create further separation from the brand's past stodgy "old" persona while helping to usher in a younger generation of consumers. Maybe along with this move they'll go back to adding hood ornaments.

I wouldn't be so sure... GM seems so desperate to get a new brand identity for Buick. I'm sure that this logo "revamp" won't be very major, similar news with the Vauxhall and Impala Emblems resulted in emblems that most people couldn't pick out changes on.

What is AARP's logo? That should do the trick.
