Buick Verano Turbo Launching Fall 2012

Buick Verano Turbo Launching Fall 2012
    250 HP, and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds

When Buick revealed the 2012 Verano small car earlier this year, they quietly mentioned the fact that the car would ultimately see the option of a turbocharged four-cylinder. GMI has since learned the Verano Turbo will launch next fall with about 250 horsepower out of the Regal GS engine.

Specifically, as product plans stand today the Verano Turbo will start production in October of 2012 as a 2013 model.

As previously reported, the Verano Turbo will be powered by GM's 2.0-liter turbo, however GMI has learned that it will be a detuned version of the Regal GS 2.0-liter Turbo. According to GM product plans, Verano Turbo will sport the "LHU" 2.0 turbo, which is the same RPO code given to the Regal GS engine. GMI expects the engine to be detuned from it's 270 horspower and 295 pound-feet of torque in the GS model.

In fact, GMI obtained a consumer brochure for the Verano back in March (seen above) that states the Verano Turbo will have 250 horspower and generate 0-60 times of about 6.5 seconds, better than the Regal GS. The 2013 Regal Turbo is also expected to get the same revised 2.0-liter turbo as the Verano.

    Thanks for the update, Nick.

I was literally just talking to a relative about the Verano Turbo about an hour ago!

Any word on the torque numbers? Anywhere near the 250 ft/lbs. mark at a lower rpm should get the Verano to 60 in less than 6.5!

I can't wait to drive this car!!!

Despite such a close "on sale" date, there is still very little information on this car, no real world pics and no real world videos.

Nice to hear the Regal Turbo is getting a power boost, it needs it.
Some people on this forum would drive a piece of wood if it was RWD and had a V8...

Gotta love the "meat ball" auto enthusiast

Note the "T" badge on the back next to "Verano."

Interesting. But still these are auto show pics, and this isn't limited to just the Turbo model. All we've got of the Verano is a few stylized marketing photos, a CGI marketing video and pictures of a couple of auto show models.

Any ideas on when we'll be seeing more? I'm guessing at when this car hits dealers.

I want a black Verano Turbo with the great looking tan interior. What a comfy looking small wannabe executive express. I particularly like how they did the wood. Instead of big splashes of wood it's draped elegantly around the center stack and door pulls. Even this brown is nice.

Agreed, at first I thought the wood trim around the center stack seemed odd just ending at the sides, but it's grown on me a lot.

This car looks great in person, by the way.

This engine + Cruze + some of the Eco weight reductions + 6 speed manual = a bunch of happy GMI posters!

Re: Buick Verano Turbo Launching Next Fall

The title of the thread reminds me of a point of confusion that I have been having with my wife for over 25 years. I call fall 2011 "next fall", because it is, well, the next fall. She would call fall 2012 "next fall". Then what do you call fall 2011?" "That is "this fall". I, on the other hand, don't start referring to "next fall" as fall 2012 until it's already fall 2011. Of course, that is the simplified version. The real version goes on several minutes before I realize that she means fall 2012 is "next fall".

Soon - Buick Regal (I'll drive the 2.4L e-Assist and see if I "need" the Turbo --once you've had a Turbo, so hard to go back). Will I be sorry if I don't hold out for an ATS?

That's a very pretty interior aside from the stupid motorcycle gauge pods.

Nick, any word on an available stick?
Pony Car: an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image and an available V8.

As usual, GM makes us wait a year for the hot engine. I suppose they think it's good marketing, but I wonder if they lose sales to people who either can't wait or never hear of the new and improved (and only hear the new model could use more power).
