2014 Buick Regal Sport Wagon Spy Shots!

Buick’s mid-size Sport Wagon looks set for a revival courtesy of the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer sold overseas. Yes, the planned update for the Buick Regal looks to be much more significant than just the minor facelift we were expecting.

A prototype for the Regal with a station wagon body has been spotted by one of our spy photographers as it was undergoing hot weather testing in California’s Death Valley recently.

We know this is a Regal and not the aforementioned Insignia Sports Tourer, which, incidentally, is also due for an update, because of the familiar Regal wheel pattern and the Buick vehicles testing alongside it.

It’s not clear when the updated Buick range, including this new Regal Sport Wagon, is due in showrooms, but the most likely scenario is a launch in the middle of next year as a 2014 model. Regular readers may recall Buick just introduced its 2013 Regal range.

I want GM and Buick to introduce this car, but for some reason I don't believe this. The CTS Wagon, as dynamic as it is does not sell in the numbers anyone expected, which does make it exclusive but not necessarily a money-maker.

I love the Regal in sedan form, but I could really get used to one of these

Hopefully like the CTS wagon, it wouldnt cost GM that much to produce it, hence thats why we were able to get a CTS wagon.

A couple of observations about this article
    1. Where are these spy shots of a Buick convertible testing in the U.S?
    2. This looks like an Insignia because of directional lamp on fender
    3. GM has said repeatedly a wagon won't be made, because they don't sell well.
    4. I agree this would sell better than Caddy wagon. Cadillac has no history selling wagons, Since the 1940s through 1996, Buick has always had a wagon

Re: 2014 Buick Regal Sport Wagon Spy Shots!

This may be a pretty savvy brand-building exercise for Buick. The Euro makes who used to own this audience are getting out of wagons in favorite of some flavour of CUV. Not sure if BMW still plans to offer a 3-series wagon as it rolls out the new bodystyle; Audi's seems to be shifting the A4 to a Subaru-Outback-like Allroad. If those wagon customers give Buick a look as it is one of the few near-luxury wagons left, that may get some affluent buyers into Buick showrooms. History indicates only a small number of them will actually buy a wagon, but even if it gets Buick on their radar, that's probably a good thing for a moderate investment in bringing an existing Euro product over here.

    5. It has the Opel grille.

I'm not saying it won't happen, it just seems unlikely at this point.

Well I see an MCE Insignia wagon being tested. Not sure what makes them assume Buick will be getting it.

The Regal isn't selling in huge numbers. I don't see why they would introduce another variant.

I thought the Regal Wagon Turbo X project was killed by GM.

To me the grille shape looks more "Buicky".

Re: 2014 Buick Regal Sport Wagon Spy Shots!

I like it. Now, if Buick gets a version of the next gen Equinox, then it doesn't make sense. But, the Enclave is at the large end of the spectrum, and the Encore at the small end, this would fit right in the middle for someone who wants a mid-sized crossover/hatchback. As we all know with new fuel economy standards coming, a fairly easy way to get an extra mpg or 2 out of the design of a vehicle is to give it less frontal aero area....thus a long wagon instead of a taller crossover.

Please GM. I would love to get a 4 cylinder wagon and not have to buy a gas-guzzling SUV just to get a cargo area. I already have an Acadia, but it would nice to get a wagon for me (kids and a dog). It's that or I'm going Jeep Grand Cherokee. So, get on it! You have 2 years until I'm ready. Even better - an Impala wagon. Resurrection of the Caprice Estate Wagon?

We are shopping for a used wagon (late model V70, Audi A6 Avant, Subaru Legacy or a Ford Flex.) I wish I could wait for a potential Regal wagon in North America but I've already been waiting and asking for well over a year. I just can not wait any longer.
Research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.

Why cant wagons have doors that will open sideways? I've always thought that was very strange they went away from that.

If GM does, which it wont, bring this here with a diesel power plant, the GTO is going away. As much as I love the GTO, I drive too much to enjoy my other hobby so I need something with good MPGs.
