When my SmartBuy is finished...

how do I pay off my car?

I will have a balance due of $10k on my Vibe when the Smartbuy expires in May. If I choose to purchase the car, will the dealership I bought it from finance it for me? Can I get a loan from my bank and present it to the dealer? Are there any hidden fees for purchasing the car at the end of the term or will I simply pay the $10k I owe. Thanks

IIRC, there's a $250 fee. That may have changed since I was looking at SmartBuys.

If you want to keep the car (and I'd only do it if the car is worth more than the residual), you can either pay the remainder in cash, a bank loan, or try to see if GMAC will finance you.

Re: When my SmartBuy is finished...

At this point, I think I will keep the car unless I find an exceptional deal somewhere else. The car will be worth about $700 more than the residual plus it will only have about 19k miles on the odometer. The mileage is the clincher because I doubt I will be able to find another '06 automatic with less than 20k miles for $10k. It's nice knowing that the car also has another year on the warranty (and it consistently gets 30+mpg).

My boss was able to negotiate the price of his Dakota when his lease was up. He was going to turn it in, but he negotiated such a fantastic deal that he just bought it. Not sure if you can w/ SmartBuys, worth a shot in my opininon.
