Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

I am looking to purcahse a 3/4 ton Suburban and I was just curious if this can be had for around invoice or even better. I know GM is having problems moving volume and would like to know how much wiggle room there is.

Thanks,

Steven C.

What's with the attitude Chebby? This guy is just looking for help, not a salesman with some lip.

At Chevy.com you can find the rebates on it, and on carsdirect.com will have you build it and will give you an idea of invoice price. No dealer wants an 07 on their lot and will be willing to give you a pretty good deal now. Good luck and let us know what you end up getting!

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

Yes, I wasn't sure how to take Cheppy's reply. The "Gee" part didn't seem to match the rest of the comment.

Hope I didn't sound belligerent, its just a question of supply and demand. I doubted there was a high demand for large SUVs right now and was just curious if they could be had for around invoice (or better). And I wouldn't go storming into the dealer room and pound my fist on the table demanding whatever advice I would get from this site. I was just trying to get a gauge of sentiment.

And I do support American cars and the American economy. Have not owned anything else (wife did at one point before marraige, but then she got the Tahoe ).

My username and post count does not give a true representation of how active I am (reading only)on this site. I have been addicted to this site for 2 years now and I check it every work day. Appreciated all the G8 info. I have come across. I know 10 times more than the salesman at my local dealership!

Anyways, thanks. Will post back if anything new parks in my driveway!

Steven

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

Take your out the door price and divide it by MSRP. You want to be somewhere between .80 and .85 (unless you live in a state with a crazy sales tax). I wouldn't buy a truck (07 in particular) unless I was on the lower end of that scale, which is what I bought my previous truck for. I'm in a state with 6% sales tax.

Remember, not only does your car depreciate like any new car does when you drive it off the lot if you buy an 07, it's even worse the longer you wait because by used market value it's already one year old now. If you buy an 07 you want to make sure you recoup that extra lost amount compared to what you would pay for an 08.

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

0.8 - 0.85????? Is that really what I should be shooting for? Out the door price including tax and license? Geez, now I don't feel so bad for wanting invoice.

So. California 8-1/4%. I wonder if that is do-able in my area???

So you're saying on a 52.5K MSRP (48.2K invoice) I should be paying 42K to 45K including tax and license? This is on a fully loaded 3/4ton Suburban?

Apparently, I am not too good in the "rubber room".

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

That's what I did on my last GMT truck. .82 = OTD price / MSRP. To get that I was $500 under invoice plus some good rebates. Good rebates that you should be able to come close to, particularly if you qualify for GM Loyalty incentives going on right now, and even better if you could find an 07.

See the "sticky" here too - this is decent advice.

I'm thinking about buying at the end of this month using a new method I found. I'll PM you the link. Not going to post it here yet, too many dealers on here and I'm not going to get in a flame war about it until I can prove whether it works or not

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

I'm just tired of the general customer's attitude and their sense of entitlement. Any salesperson here who sells from desperation needs to seriously reconsider his/her career. If you are not offended by customers who walk in with their attitude that you want to sell it more than they want to buy it, I feel sorry for you.

If you're only capable of making mini deals on Suburbans, you should be ashamed of yourself. You probably started at a $600 deal. There;s a reason the window sticker is there.

Sorry for the rant. Just venting and not trying to offend anyone.

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

Ok bought it. Long story short, we had to go the the dealership (90 miles away) that actually had the vehicle even though the local dealership assured us that it was no problem for them to get the vehical and make the deal. New dealership offered a price for our trade-in that was 1500 less than local dealer. I said to split the difference and the deal was made.

This was the only vehicle that matched our wishes (color combination and options) around so it really was a one of a kind.

I originally wanted a Sub. 1500 with a 6 liter engine, but we were told the closet one was in vegas. Not sure if that was the truth. If it was don't know why there aren't many 6 liters available around here. My logic was that since we have a 22' boat (not very heavy) and our 2003 Tahoe's performance wasn't spectacular when towing it I wanted to get the 6 liter engine. According to the specs. the difference in power was not a drastic change but I thought every little bit would help. So now I have a 6 liter engine (not exactly the same offered in the 1500) on the 2500 frame and I think that combination just cancelled each other out because of weight differences and so on. It is a 6 speed trans, so we will see if that helps out.

So a fully loaded '08 Suburban 2500 4x4 was ~46600 (includes $6000 in rebates) out the door. A 0.89 ratio according to SlowRider. Doesn't meet his numbers but I am happy and that is all that matters.

Thanks

Steven

Re: Suburban 2500 - How good of a deal can one get

Qwertyqwerty21, just because slowrider5 is telling you to shoot for 80-85% of MSRP doesn't mean that his advice is good, or even more than wishful thinking. A little bit of misinformation goes a long way towards negative perception. I'm glad that you don't have the overt characteristics of a salesman-hating consumer (not to say that you don't actually hate us), but consumers can feel put-off when their expectations aren't met. Congrats on the new Sub.

Hey not bad. You could do better, but you also could do A LOT worse. If you're happy, that's all that matters. Congrats on the new 'burb.

Back to my formula, based on real world results in the midwest (not wishful thinking), which keep in mind is different market for trucks than CA...............if I had to pay your sales tax it would've put another .2 on top.

Great!

We just got rid of our '04 Suburban 1500 exactly a week ago for a new Malibu...but they're one beast I will always respect

And yours being a 2500 just makes it THAT much more special, even in regards to being rare.
