Re: Sales Tactics?

Overpriced gap, bs doc fees, bs ( re-imbursed) advertising fees, the list goes on. Google holdbacks. We horrid people want a good deal and realize make 4-8 % off msrp is a pretty stout amount. F&I people are the more experienced sales people and hurt you. CREDIT UNION... Credit Union... get your loan there.

The monthly price he told me came out to be higher then I had calculated at home, after I signed the transaction agreement. When I hung up, I checked the calculations again from both the GM website and Edmunds using the exact numbers which I signed for and the correct APR. From what I figured, there seems to be an extra 1000 dollars in the price of the car.

Now to my question: If I agreed to finance xx,xxx dollars at a rate of 1.9% for 3 years, why is there a pretty large discrepancy with the monthly payment numbers? The only extra cost I am paying for is a very small DMV fee and that is a simple cash transaction which was not figured into the final price. I am thinking (and hoping) he made a mistake with the calculations but is something like this common? I really did not think this was going to be a problem because it is simple math on known and agreed upon numbers.

I would really appreciate any and all responses before I call him back.

Thanks.
I would guess one of two things:
Either he made a mistate with the rate he used which, with some of the computer systems that dealerships use, is very easy to do.
or
He might be giving you a payment with some leg built in for the F&I folks to work with.

I could be something else that I'm not thinking of right now but those are the two most common reasons for a quoted payment to be higher then anticipated.

Re: Sales Tactics?

It's all on the finance contract in simple english. You can ask for a breakdown of the financing before you see the actual contract. If it doesn't jive, you have to call them on it or walk away from the deal.

Re: Sales Tactics?

Buying below sticker price is un-American. What the hell is wrong with making a decent profit? That's how the rest of the economy operates, why not vehicles? Try and god-damned grind for a gallon of gas or a pound of tomatos. A rebate is no different than a sale on milk at the supermarket, why do you still have to get it for even less? What the hell happened to all the alleged patriots that were everywhere after 9/11? They sure aren't all driving American cars. They definitely aren't all paying sticker and supporting their fellow countrymen. If you drive a Japanese car or buy at or below invoice and then lose your job to someone overseas where labor rates are lower, don't come crying to me. You asked for it, you got it.

p.s. no offense to all the fine Canadians here, this is just as applicable up north.

Does anyone know if it's true that the percentage of Big Three vehicles sold in Mexico (versus foreign) is higher than that of the United States? Meaning: are Mexicans more loyal to the Big Three than Americans?

Re: Sales Tactics?

Malone - Is this a lease or purchase?

Some things I have come across in my recent "shopping expedition" for a new truck.

I get GMS, and I can log into FMFF and see the prices, that is always OK, but payment from one dealer to the next very TREMENDOUSLY on, what would apparently is a “fixed price” transaction.

Digging deeper into the numbers, some dealers show you, others won’t – they just want to bend you over and get you fixated on the payment alone.

Same Truck, two dealers and dramatically different payments!? The rest of the story….

Dealer A:
Documentation Fee: $180, Acquisition Fee: $595, Security Deposit $325, Money Rate 5.75%, Residual 59%

Dealer B:
Documentation Fee: $75, Acquisition Fee: $0, Security Deposit $0, Money Rate 4.75%, Residual 59%

So when …..

Dealer A applies my $600 DAS, it doesn’t begin to touch the Cap Cost, and actually his “fees everybody pays” are applied increases my Cap Cost, by over $500 or over the 39 months about $13/month.

Dealer B applies my $600 DAS, covers all the fees and pays down the Cap Cost some, combining that, with the “good credit” Money Rate of 4.75 the resulting payment is reduced about $20.

A difference of $33, for the same truck! Over 39 months …………… over $1,200!

Now I went to 5 or 6 dealers and talked to 3 or 4 more, pretty easy when you live in a Metropolitan area and buying a GM truck (Chevrolet or GMC). These were the extremes, most were somewhere in the middle, but as you see they very greatly.

Buyer Beware!

Re: Sales Tactics?

Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I picked up my car yesterday and it was a simple mistake made by the sales office. Once I brought it to their attention they looked over the numbers and realized they had made the mistake. No hassle and no problems on the purchase (not lease).

So far I love the CTS and I think my only complaint is not being able to find the perfect setting for my seat because there are so many different positions for the seat and the wheel. Oh well, once I have the car for a week, I think I will figure it out.

One quick question though. If I would have ordered this vehicle, would the advertising fees been waived? Thanks again to everyone for all of their help.
