Re: Ready to buy
My my. Did I strike a nerve?
I admit I could never do what you guys do, but that's because I don't like to count on specious arguments and other deceitful tactics to earn a living. I also would never put up with any verbal abuse by any greedy sales manager either. You have my sympathy. Buying a car is obviously an adversarial system, but most of you guys take it too far and blatantly disrespect your customers by unsing manipulative tactics and catch-phrases to take control of them, because that control = mo' munny for yourselves. That's the meat of the issue I have with you people and why car salesmen never like me. I always deny them that control, and they take it personally, just like most of you are. KBB and Edmunds has no agenda to harm any dealership or consumer. Though they aren't perfect, they are among the most reliable independent party to evaluate the value of a used car that we have at the moment. If they really did offer to buy cars for what they say they are worth, that would invalidate them as a reliable source for that information because they would be in it for the profit they could make on the resale of that vehicle. Auctioneers are the same. There are in it to make a profit from what they buy, so accepting their numbers is just bad business sense for a consumer. The first time I traded in a car, I just wanted it gone and was happy to get $500 for it, but the second time I went to buy new, my old car was worth $3000 according to KBB and $800 according to the dealer. Needless to say, I didn't buy from them. Last edited by Big Time : 12-18-2007 at 11:28 PM. |

The difference is that this car salesman has the ability to write a check for the amount I say it's worth... Will you placea value on his trade? Notice Big Time points out a problem without presenting a solution... ![]() Generally all dealers within a particular market area go to the same auctions and tend to bid the same amounts on trade in's in similar condition... But don't take my word for it Big Time, it's just 5 years in the business talking... BTW, What qualifications do you hold? ![]()

Shame on you for judging someone you don't even know.. Did I not give you sound (though a little sarcastic) advice? What qualifies you to say that KBB and NADA don't have an agenda? Are they a Not-for-profit or something? Did UNICEF get into the vehicle valuation business? And that auctioneers are the same..? How many auto auctions have you attended? Are people in the car business NOT supposed to make money? What makes you an expert on my industry anyway? You say that KBB and NADA are the "most reliable independant party to evaluate"? They are the only independant parties available to you! Again, they are a decent tool, but if they are off, they are off.... And you will never know which is which because you aren't a dealer. I swear the only part about my job that I hate is having to deal with certain people that dispize you, demean you, berate you, use you, then refuse to let you make things easy... And they only come to the dealer because they have to.... That is an adversarial relationship... And NO.. My relationship with my few hundred customers is not adversarial at all... And no one gets screwed... Consider the man in the video posted below... http://my.break.com/content/view.aspx?ContentID=383490

Re: Ready to buy
Retail value is listed at $9,500...offered $5,600 on trade...leads to the approximate $4,000 I am referring to.

Re: Ready to buy
Well, I guess you can stop watching now, as the vehicle sold privately for what I was asking for it. Going to do the paperwork next week. Therefore, I guess I really wasn't out of the ballpark.

All it sounds like is YOU ripped a sucker off with your truck. Welcome to auto sales 101. Actually this is a very interesting situation. jfnz24 goes and feels he is being lowballed on his trade because dealers would only pay approx. 5500 for it. He sells it privately for 9500 as he proudly spouts. Sounds like a fair deal? For who? The person that bought it, clearly paid waaaayyy too much. If the dealer had taken it in on trade for the 5600 and sold it for 9500, THERE WOULD BE SCREAMING FROM THE HILLS THAT DEALERS ALWAYS RIPOFF CUSTOMERS!!! But not jfnz24. Who's really the bad guy when all is said and done? Personally, I have no problem with him selling his truck for as much as the market will bear. I just don't like the "Bash the Car Salesman" attitude by customers here and then they do the same thing when they sell privately. Last edited by ChebbySalesDept : 12-20-2007 at 02:52 PM. |

Re: Ready to buy
Hey, come on guys, it's dog eat dog in the car business. With the trade in situation taken care of, on a straight out deal, the buyer is really in the driver's seat now. Figure your buying price, stick to it.
