Racing a leased car?

Let's say you have a company car which is leased. Assume it's from GMAC considering the forum

Can you drive/enter the car in a rally or something like this?

Re: Racing a leased car?

If you're talking about the daily Eastern Montreal to Western Montreal Winter Rally, I think that is permitted already in the lease agreement. I really enjoy that race, what with the fast approaching bumps, moving blockades and other competitors. Adding snow and a little freezing rain just adds to the enjoyment.

Sorry... I couldn't resist. Just what you're thinking about intrigues me, though.

I never thought about that. I'll have to read the GMAC guide book when I get home.

Re: Racing a leased car?

I lease vehicles to federal and state agencies. Although some look like they have rallied them, the answer is no.....

You know I just wish instead of living west and working east I worked west and lived east that 20/13 interchange is a piece of crap...

And if racing the leased car is not permitted, is it likely that one would receive sanctions for doing so anyway?

Re: Racing a leased car?

The real issue is will your insurance cover you if something were to happen. Most insurance policies exclude this.

My understanding of lease agreements is that you are agreeing to do the proper upkeep and maintainance, but I don't know if there is a clause about racing. Check your specific lease policy to see what it says.

Oh, and warranty. It may void part of your warranty. GM doesn't seem too concerned about this but I recall Mitsubishi going through race standings to see if a vehicle was raced and were refusing warranty work. Talk about ****ty treatment.

Re: Racing a leased car?

A fun rally ? I say most of those are NOT speed time events but rather like treasure hunts etc...

I'm sure you won't have a problem....

Drive safe.

Re: Racing a leased car?

I'm pretty sure all lease agreements have a stipulation about keeping minimum levels of insurance coverage so if you were to take part in an activity that was excluded by you insurance coverage then it would stand to reason that you would at that time be in violation of your lease agreement.

Call GMAC from a blocked number and ask them "hypotheticly speaking"

OF COURSE YOU CAN!

Remove license plates, all identifying marks and decals, and wear a nice wig and fake moustache. That way, the insurance finks who hang out at races will never know it's you!

Re: Racing a leased car?

Thought seriously about leasing a new Camaro several years ago, and I would have driven it like a rental for sure. Ideal situation, run the wheels off it and drop the keys in the dealer night slot, walk away. Sort of.....
