Questions about "Friends" plan...

Hello everyone,

I'm new here and have some questions for anyone that would care to answer. I'm looking in to buying a new car at some point and would like some "insider" details about buying with the "Friends" discount.

I looked into the "GM Family First" website dealing with suppliers price etc. I'm curious about what the percentage over invoice this ends up being when purchasing a car. Is this the best offer that you can get when going into a dealer?

I've looked at all sorts of cars including Ford and one of the things that DID turn me on about them is that they have (on their forum website) a system where you give the employee needed information and they can give you one of their pin numbers. This plan ends up being .04% over invoice price and this price is the same if you go to the dealership and buy one off the lot, do a dealer trade OR order a car from the factory. Plus you get all incentives (customer or dealer) and some that you can ONLY get with this plan. Does GM have this same plan/system? If not, how DOES the GM "Friends" plan work for buying off the lot or ordering a vehicle? And will any employees on this website help to get you a "pin" number to use when going to the dealership?

I've done some searching around on the forums here to find any of this information, and there doesn't seem to be too much out there on this.

If anyone can provide me with more information on this subject, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thank you in advance!

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Well................There really is no "set" percentage off retail prices. All models
have different mark ups so I guess the % off is different model to model.
Unless someone had the actual time to figure the exact % off each model,
option etc..........................

With the "supplier for friends" deal you get X for a price !

Go to your local GM dealer........Pick out your car.............Tell dealer you are eligible for GM supplier discount price. Dealer whips out invoice sheet with GM supplier price plainly printed
on it! Simple as that!

If you order the car the price is no different (anymore).

There are several GM employee/retiree/family members
around this site that would be more than happy to
sponsor you (or anyone) to get the "GM supplier discount
for friends " deal to keep the factories humming and to
prevent your money from flowing back to the evil empires
of japan and korea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When your ready shoot me a e-mail. Can fix ya up!

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

I will also note that some GM dealers will not participate in some of
the GM supplier/family/friends deals. Especially on Vettes or any new hot
model like the new crossovers. Its best to tell the salesperson UPFRONT
so as to not waste anybodies time !................geo

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Also, bring the authorization number with you as most dealers won't give you the price until they see the number.

Be careful as there may be some rebates you DON'T get under the Supplier program so a regular retail deal may net a lower price.

The most important thing is to "NOT ACT LIKE A TOOL!".

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

CHEBBY...................Its sort of tough handing out the 1 measly "deal"
auth. number (a month) to just anybody who is asking for it to show
to the salesfolks so they can see the price!!!!!

I can't tell ya how many times I have been STROKED by a "lookielou"
who wastes the auth. number and doesn't buy or runs to the
toyoyo/hondee toaster dealer to send their cash to japan!

Most folks I know who are serious LEVELHEADED buyers and want
a GM vehicle usually hookup with a savy sales/dealer and figure
the numbers and I will e-mail the auth. # to the dealer in minutes
if the deal is good for both parties....................

I have found that MOST published rebates, GM card points etc.
can be used in the employee/retiree/supplier/friends programs.
I DO understand that certain "rebates, gm upfitter, eqipment"
cannot be stacked or used.
But a good manager knows the rules anyhoo!.............geo

Both MSRP and GM Supplier prices are posted on the GM Supplier edition of Buypower (use the "Build Your Own" tool). It's handy for configuring and pricing your desired vehicle before heading to the dealer.

Only the Extended Family card can use GM Card earned points with the GMS/GSU discount. That one has gotten a few people here.

As far as the deal "Being good" it has to be because the pricing is fixed. The only variable is the trade.

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Kitty if you need help with a specific car pm me and I'll do everything I can. Just make sure you have the last 8 numbers of the vin. I don't know what region you're in so I may not be a ton of help as far as rebates go.

Chebby and myself have run into some people that are pretty clueless. I'll help you get every bit of info so you can walk in and make a deal quickly and easily. It's a little slow around here from time to time so I'll have some spare time to gather some info for you. Holler if I can help.

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

From my understanding on the "gm discount for friends" deal the regular
GM card points may be used. Yes ----No??????

I know that they cannot on Family-GMS deals

They could be used with the old "GM in the Driveway" program, but not it's replacement ("GM Discount for Friends") program.

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Cool....................Gm sure is gettin' cheap with the deals!
The GM in the driveway deal I could give out 2 per month.
This GM discount for friends only 1 per month !

Still the supplier price just about can't be beat as long as ya
figure in NOT paying the advertising fee and DOC is limited to $75.

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Since the Supplier price is right about the invoice price, you are paying the advertising regardless.

Doc fee in NY is only $45.

Again, explore the regular retail deal and you may be surprised if it's better for you.

Re: Questions about "Friends" plan...

Chebby.......Your right about DOC being limited to $45 in NY by law
but GM limits it to $75 for the poor souls I have given the deal to
that live in parts of NJ ($1200 doc), Ca. $1000, Fl, $1300 !!!!!!

Not to mention advertising fee along with DOC which are listed
as a seperate line item !
Thats still a addl. $2000 off a close to invoice price not including
rebates!
