So, Monte Carlos are Japanese tin cans? Interesting.

And, when I was there Saturday, it was NOT busy ... at all. Only 2 other customers were there when I was there....

Unhappy Re: Price Gouging?

This is epidemic...it is not isolated. It seems to be the way for Pontiac dealers.
My local dealer said "we HAVE to boost it by $5k"...before they even had the delivery date for their first one! They had already decided that they "had" to boost the price by $5k.

Say you decide to get the car...when you go to get the loan, the bank won't finance that premium, they'll only go up to MSRP on the car and options you are buying...and the marketing dollars Pontiac is spending at the national level for "most powerful under $30k" mean nothing if the dealer makes it $35k. Not only is the advertising wasted, but after having the experience at the local dealer of the attempted gouge, the person blames Pontiac corporate for pulling one over on them with the $30k commercial. Even it is the local dealer that was doing it, they have a bad taste in their mouth because their perception is that the corporate entity (Pontiac) ALLOWED the gouging to occur. So much for a turnaround...with the way things are now in the housing market, etc...people are not just buying cars on a whim. This is a great way to alienate potential customers and everyone they talk to about their dealer expereince. Why does Pontiac HQ not understand this?

This is self inflicted...and really sad. The dealers did the same thing with the Solstice...from what I see on this site they did the same with the GTO...this is a great way to drive people away, and to be sure they tell their friends about the way the dealer wanted to fleece them.

Re: Price Gouging?

If you have AAA credit the bank will absolutely finance the over amount plus the sales tax. It happens all the time.

I showed up on a Saturday and parked my Japanese tin can right in front of the G8. I was upfront with the salesman--said my timeframe is about 1 year at that point and I was strictly kicking tires. I was treated well, the car was unlocked , & the salesman was low pressure.

Bottom line: You just have to find a good dealer, & every time I've been to this one (P/B/GMC/Cadillac) they are a class act. The guy even pointed out that by the summer I'll be in better shape since there should be more cars on the ground.

PS No markup was on the sticker.

Don't hold your breath. I hear that they are only making a limited number of G8s.

Do you even know who are you replying to? Are you so simple as to overlook the fact that:

1) knightfan26917 and I are two different posters,

2) knightfan26917 is who mentioned that his friend had an issue getting a test drive, & never mentioned any 'threats' to go to BMW,

3) I am the one who checked out a G8 without problem or hassle, in spite of my current car or clearly stated farther out purchase date.

I will spell out the point I was making, since this is clearly complicated for you:

All dealers are not the same. There are good ones, and there are bad ones. He found a bad one. I found a good one.

Still with me? Re-read it if you need to.

The salesman respected me, mentioned that he's been there 16 years and said that when I am ready, he's not going anywhere & he'd appreciate it if I look him up, & then left me alone. He even said look as long as you like, and mentioned that I will get a better price the longer I wait. With an experience like that, where do you think I will be going if I am in the market for a Buick, Pontiac, GMC, or Cadillac? This dealership's staff has been a class act every time I've shopped, and is the reason I go there.

Anyways, any time I encounter salesfolks that rub me the wrong way, I don't complain, I just go somewhere else. Life is too short, & they don't owe me anything, nor I them.

I bet there will be incentives on at least the 6 cylinder 2008 G8's by wintertime.

If The Shoe Fits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I indeed lumped you two strokes together in one reply!

Anyhoo.......You were pegged as a stroke no matter what!

The old "maybe in a year from now" story! Like the salesguy
wanted to hear that from a "serious" customer driving a
import car and taking a YEAR from now!

I am sure he was happy hearing a strokes story and possibly
missing a REAL customer!

Heck..you don't even OWN a GM car let alone a NEW one
so why or how many times did you "shop" there to confirm
they are a class act ??????????

Thanks, 377Z for clearing this up. Sorry I wasn't here sooner to do it.....

Let's see ... I stopped by on a Saturday with ONLY TWO OTHER CUSTOMERS (as I noted before) at the dealership. Two customers is busy?

And, no, my friend NEVER "threatened" to go to the BMW dealership. As I stated initially here, he went to check out and test drive the G8 to see if he really wanted that instead of a BMW. He had seen pics of the G8 and really liked it...and wanted to test drive it. From what he told me, he NEVER ONCE told the salesman about deciding between a G8 and a BMW. And, he didn't go on a Saturday.

Had I known that sonjaab had such a chip on his shoulder, I would not have even bothered, but I know that most people see through the internet tough guys pretty easily.

Send me a PM if you'd like to know the dealership I'm talking about. Highly recommended, though you may not want to drive to Hodgkins.

Re: Price Gouging?

it is just called SUPPLY & DEMAND, i remember when the pt cruiser first came out they were doing the same thing, 5k over sticker and people were standing in line for a year or two before they got the supplies up. i am in sales and don't really like having to ask for more than msrp myself but i guess if you can get away with it and people will pay the cars or trucks must be worth it , i don't hear folks talking about the poor dealerships when they are getting 5-10k off of msrp trying to give cars away either.
