Price Gouging?

What are dealers asking for a G8? The local Pontiac dealer in Lawrence is taking orders for a G8 starting at MSRP + $5500 and MSRP + $7500 for a GT. Outrageous I know, but I'm wondering if this practice will be common, and lead to another GTO situation.

Re: Price Gouging?

Something that someone suggested is that they're trying to keep the G8s on the lot as long as possible until they get more of them. That way, they'll have one or two to advertise and show off until they get a larger volume of them, then they'll lower the prices and start selling at the stickered price.

We are selling our first one for GMS and our second one for flat sticker no extra mark up both GT's loaded. They are sitting in California not through customs yet. 2 to 3 more weeks..

Re: Price Gouging?

I hope that dealers are smart enough to sell these near MSRP. Jacking up the price will alienate customers and send them packing, much like the GTO. It makes me wonder if GM could put some kind of mandated cap on all of their products to keep dealers from ruining the turn-around.

I think all manufactures should so that.

I am not sure but your local dealer is stupid. Short term there might be a few rabid fans that may bite, but this strategy will backfire when potential customers that would have never shopped a Pontiac walk out of the showroom with nary a second thought.

Dealers have to help Pontiac entice new GM and non-GM customers and not turn them off for minimal short term gains.

Agreed.

A dealership a friend of mine went to sure isn't helping either. He went to look at the G8 and hopefully take it for a test drive to see if he wanted to buy it instead of a new BMW. The dealer he went to told him he couldn't take the G8 for a test drive unless he was definitely going to buy that day.....

Maybe I'll wait to go look at a G8 until more get to dealers........

Had a similar experience at a caddy dealer a few months ago. I wanted to look at some used CTS's on their used car lot and was escorted to their used car office where after the usual meet and greet I was told they did not have any used CTs's on the lot. (even though i saw three of them on the said lot on my way in). i didn't say anything because the salesman did tell me some other useful information and i also did not want to make him look like an idiot in front of his colleagues. On my way out I saw a Black current gen model and asked if i could take it for a test drive but i got the same response as your friend did. As for the G8 wait until the intital "gotta have it buzz" runs its course. More often then not you'll find that most dealers are usually less ridiculous about test drives after that initial period

Re: Price Gouging?

I was at my local Pontiac dealer last week and they had 1 G8 GT with a $2,000 market adjustment. The salesman offered a test drive as soon as I started looking. But I would not consider buying a car with a market adjustment.

The dealer may make a few extra thousand dollars on a few cars but they are losing alot more future dollars from potential loyal Pontiac customers. This is very short sighted and not a very good way to add fans to the Pontiac family.

Yeah, I should've waited. But, no. This afternoon (er, Saturday afternoon, that is), I was out running errands and decided to stop at a different Pontiac dealer.

Big mistake.

Let's just say, after my experience, I'm not as excited about the G8 anymore.... Pontiac dealers around here sure seem to be doing their darnest to drive away any type of interest in this car.....

I don't get it....

Re: Price Gouging?

I don't understand why some of you folks are having issues finding or
test driving a new G-8.................

I was at a multi line GM dealer today (where I bought my 07 truck) and
the salesguy FELL over himself to get me to DRIVE a new G-8 !!!!!!!!!!
All the while mentioning that they WILL deal and honor my GM employee
discount deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly I did NOT take one for a drive ONLY because the 6.0 bad boy was
on display in the showroom and the only other one was a sad 6 banger!
Salesguy did mention that a days notice would be necessary for them to
get the 6.0 out of the showroom but I could drive the 6 banger NOW if I
wished!
Not to mention the weather was miserable and did I mention I am not in
the market for a new car at the moment........................

I did leave many drool marks and fingerprints on the black 6.0 in the
showroom tho !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe its YOU guys showing up on a busy Saturday in your japanese
tin can and wanna play lookie-lou is whats scaring off that sales guy??????

My experience was totally different!
