Our first GM car...

GM has finally conquered my family.

For years I have lamented how much I disliked GM cars. However, over the last few years I have started to respect their design. I promised myself that my next car would be from GM.

Ironically, my wife ended up buying the first GM car.

More Ironically, she's Japanese.

Over the weekend we purchased a Chevy HHR Premier Edition at Reliable Chevy in Richardson, TX. I have to give that dealer props for doing a great job. Our salesman really did know his product. We also felt like we got a fair offer on our trade.

Oh, and the icing on the cake. Last month, I started working at EDS. I got GM Employee pricing. Needless to say, I was VERY HAPPY.

So the car. I haven't driven it much but there were two things I immediately liked about the HHR. The ride and the air conditioning. Considering the size of the car, the ride was very smooth. You could feel the bumps in the road but they weren't jarring at all. The car rode much smoother than my wifes VW that it replaced. The AC was OUTSTANDING. I swear we could have made snowcones in that car. Last Saturday was the first truly hot day we had in Texas too.

Oh, we also tried out the Nissan Versa (wife liked the exterior) but the AC was so anemic that we were still hot after a 20 minute test drive. If you live in Texas, do NOT buy a Nissan Versa. BTW, I don't consider that to be an example of all Nissans because the Murano I used to have had pretty good AC.

Anyways, with GMS I think I'll be buying myself a new car in a couple of years. I will be buying from Reliable Chevy, and I will be buying a GM car (hopefully a Camaro)

Re: Our first GM car...

Wow, that is good to hear then.

Also it is good GM has cleaned things up a bit, so people like you who once hated GM for their faults can tell they are improving and all.

I wish you luck on your GM purchases.

Re: Our first GM car...

I have to second the A/C in the HHR, I rented one a couple weekends ago to move stuff from LA to Phoenix and damn that thing got COLD quick. I was quite fond of it during my day with it.

I just wish GM would ditch that tiny radio display on the rental spec model, it just puts a seriously cheap feeling to the car. Especially since the black tie with the good screen is easily my favorite non-nav car radio setup...

Re: Our first GM car...

Congratulations! The HHR is a fine little car. I've rented two of them and quite enjoyed them. I love the retro wagon styling with the high beltline.
