Re: my stupid question of the month

The biggest problem may be registering and insuring one.

My kid brother was dead-set on bringing a Toyota Hilux into the US via central America until he found out no insurance company would cover it. Also, the State's registration computer system won't recognize a Hilux, because it's not in the database, so he would have to go through the torturous process of having it registered as a "homemade" vehicle. So he bought a Tacoma...

Maybe if you just some got Wave-specific trim pieces and affixed them to an Aveo...

Re: my stupid question of the month

Probably, since it is an Aveo, it might have to be registered as an Aveo though (since the Wave is not in systems).

Re: my stupid question of the month

Yeah I think you could buy an aveo then go to a canadian pontiac dealer and get all the pontiac trim pieces and wheels. The big major drawback is how much you will end up paying for a small car when you add up an aveo+pontiac trim pieces. It would be high

Because i think the Wave looks better than the Aveo, even though they are the exact same thing.

Thank you everybody for the help.

Why not just have the grille and badges imported from Canada? It might cost you a lot less!

He wants a Wave because there's no vehicle that better projects Pontiac's performance image

Registration and insurance is based on VIN codes and not just the name on the vehicle (or the name you tell them). If the VIN code is Pontiac specific, you can't register it as a Chevrolet Aveo.

Re: my stupid question of the month

It is in the Canadian dealers agreement, that They cannot knowingly sell a New Vehicle to a US resident. Back when the Canadian dollar was .60 cents US, many people tried. The dealer faced his Franshies being pulled for knowingly selling any new vehicle.

Any vehicle sold and registered in Canada for 6 months/12000kms, was classed as a used vehicle.

We are warned about this and we have a list of known people/groups that try to do so. GM also gave us hints of what to look for if we were suspicious that a buyer may have such plans.

wow!! i just caught this thread. been out of the loop for a few days. guess i just missed it somehow. i've never heard of this "wave". i just went to gm canada's website and looked at it. boy, is it just me or does that thing look weird to anybody else? i guess never knowing about it makes it weird after looking at aveos everyday.

Re: my stupid question of the month

If things don't work out with the Wave in Canada....maybe try Mexico

With the surge in the Canadian dollar, Mexico might even be cheaper to get parts imported, not to mention they don't have the girly "wave" name, but a more US lineup oriented "G3" badge:

Mexican Pontiac G3

Just make sure you know some Spanish
Good luck! Either way I agree, I like the small differences in looks over the Aveo
