    Labor Rate

What's the labor rate at your dealership? I was charged $78 per hour at my local GM garage...Yikes! Does GM actually reimburse the dealer full rate for parts/labor if the vehicle is under warranty? I've heard the dealers don't make much money off warranty work? Is that a true statement?

$84 mechanical, $89 body, pretty much the norm in town. The closest city to us is over $105/. Oh and don't forget the Canadain 15% sales tax on top.

$89.95, pretty well the standard around our neck of the woods.

    Re: Labor Rate

We are at $78/hr, no body shop. Warranty is $72, so yes we make slightly less at warranty labor rate. The caddy dealer down the road from us, get this, is at $100............and $40, thats right $140 dollars per hour customer pay labor rate.

Needless to say we have lots of caddy customers now!!

    Re: Labor Rate

I think the real question is how much does the poor guy working on the car average per hour? I bet it's considerably less!!! I respect my mechanic at my local dealer because without him and all his hard work we would all be in big trouble.

    Re: Labor Rate

Heres a quick brake down of labor rate per bay, obviously this varies, and is not exact, but it gives ya an idea.
    $89.95/hour (CAD$)(Our Shop)
    -$45/hour, operating expenses
    -$25/hour, Technician pay
    -$10/misc. expences
    -$9.95/hour profit
    =$89.95/hour

    Re: Labor Rate

I know last time I had repairs I paid for, it was $88/hr, that was a Honda dealer. I'm not sure about my Chevy dealer though.

    Re: Labor Rate

I am blessed with a very good dealer and a good service department. It is in my best interest for the Mechanic to make a wage they can support their family with. I have no problem paying $89 per hour for a job well done and done right the first time. My time is very expensive and I can't afford to keep returning to get the same problem fixed over and over again.

$65 straight across the board. And people still complain. But running a garage is very expensive.

Our techs will make about 1/3 of that or more depending on the training.

Exactly! Ford is going nuts with laptops and PDA's right now plus the software rentals.

I've seen pictures of saftey glasses that have our manuals projected on the lens. I can see them costing a pretty penny, technology is getting pretty wild.
