Re: GM Card earnings without limits

My GM card earnings just became practically worthless. Since GM killed leasing in Canada and heavy incentives have dried up, my $2000 in earnings mean nothing now. Goodbye GM, good luck selling cars here. If I were you I would not take the program too seriously.

You can buy instead of lease and still use it.

Yes its a "Direct Mail" piece, we're getting customers here with bonuses up to $3500 with no limit on which car to use it on.

Take it, use the cash, then grab scissors and never use the GMCard again.

True, but I am willing to lease a GM, not buy one. I am not crazy about having payments after the warranty period is up. From experience, repairs go through the roof in year's 4 and 5.

Re: GM Card earnings without limits

I just bought a Saturn Vue Monday and tried to tell/them/use all my earnings and they didn't seem to know anything about it and said the limit on 2008 Vue would be $1000 no matter what; I even asked them to double check, same answer.

I contacted GM Card today just to find out for sure and they are telling me I should have been able to use all $1700. I'm trying to get the dealer to reverse the process but don't know if they will come through as they still think I am wrong. The GM card rep told me the process can be reversed and I should get the additional $700 credit

Anyone else go through something like this?

Follow up. I was able to work with the dealer to get my FULL rewards on this purchase. Lesson - Don't just trust the salesmen, 3 different ones told me that my limit would be $1000 - all three were wrong. Something just told me to follow up on it as it just didn't seem right.

With GM's constant changing of incentives I would give these guys a little bit of a break. Buickman has written some great stuff about how frustrating it is to keep up with GM's inconsistent changing of incentives.

I have one for $3000 + $500 = $ 3500.

I am going to give it to my father who will combine the GMAC cash ($2000) and the Malibu incentive ($1000) for his new vehicle. $6500 off a Malibu + GM Employee Pricing is not a bad deal.

Note: This will be my father's first purchase of a vehicle (vs lease) in more than 20 years. Lease on the Malibu is off the wall.

Lease on most every GM is now. They raised all rates greatly as of August 1, and now actively discourage even trying to do as such. Not that SmartLease and SmartBuy don't still exist, but you'd be crazy with the rates. You could finance, trade in at the typical end of lease time, and be just better off--even if by chance upside down on the loan--as you would have been had you leased.

That said...WOW, what a Malibu deal! On a car that has slim margins to begin with and dealers deal on, but don't go crazy on cutting price for very good reason, it's a great time to deal if you have such offers and want an '08 V6 model for that specific $1k bonus rebate.
