First Time @ a Dealer

Now that my choice has pretty much narrowed down to the Malibu and my timeframe for buying is very soon (next week prolly), I decided to hit up my Chevy dealer of choice to spend some time checking out my prospective ride up close (there are 2 1LT's in Dark Grey Metallic......one with an Ebony interior, the other in Titanium....the Ebony one is my top pick).

The salesman who took care of us (dad came along w/me) was a nice guy, very personable....but man, did he know his stuff. The way he talked about the Ecotec, the platform and all these other bits of technical data & trivia, it was like he'd been lurking around here forever

Took one for a test drive, which was a blast (more about that later....), then came back and parked next to this sharp looking black Z06 which was getting detailed. Inside after exchanging info and getting a brochure and so forth.....got to meet the sales manager. He seemed like a real energetic, go-getter type, not as relaxed/laid back as the salesman, but nice nonetheless. It seemed to deflate him a lil bit when I said I wouldn't be buying today, but I said I'd be back early in the evening next thursday, he gave me his card and that was that.

You always hear about so-called 'horror stories' and what not from car buyers, but my 'first time' at a dealer went pretty good. Am looking fwd. to going back next week too

Hate to tell you but...

With employee pricing the Malibu's will probably be gone by Monday at the latest.

Which dealership? I always thought that H&H Chevrolet was the best in Omaha but I also heard good things about Gregg Young Chevrolet.

You're a little too optimistic.....though the salesman did say they got rid of 10 in the past two weeks, counting the two I have in mind, there are at least another 8, if not more on the lot. I don't think even they can get rid of all of those in the next 6 days......

H&H is the one I hit up, I'm a definite believer in them being the highest volume dealer in the area.

Doing a GM inventory search (where did I put that link?), I wasn't able to find any at Gregg Young (at least within my price range).

I'm glad you had a good experience at the dealer. I always seem to get the newbie when I walk into a Chevy dealer. They always want to go for the hard sell even though I tell them upfront that I'm just looking, and don'tplan to buy for awhile.

Most of the time we only get to hear the bad experiences. Good luck with the car. When you do buy make sure you seek out the salesman who helped you and give him the deal.

Re: First Time @ a Dealer

Finally bit the bullet and went back earlier this evening and drove away in a new Malibu (2008). Gotta say, the whole buying experience had me slightly nervous at first as this is the first time I've ever done this, but I had a good time overall.

Took a little bit to get the numbers straightened out, but I felt like I came away with a great deal, esp. since I'm a first time buyer like I said. Once the salesman took everything back to the Finance Manager, there was another wait, but we started talkin about the new Camaro, all the showroom renovations they had going on and everything was pretty cool. Great guy right there.

The Finance Manager played it all pretty straightforward. Was slightly high-pressure when it came to talkin bout the extended warranty packages and what not, but I knew he was just doin his job and declined w/o any issues. He was actually the one who got me the good financing too, so the other half of the credit goes to him.

If you're ever in/around town.....it'd definitely pay to check out H&H

Re: First Time @ a Dealer

It is so refreshing to hear from a customer who is happy with his purchase experience.

In a few days, you will receive a survey from GM asking questions about that experience. Please remember that any response you give less than "Completely Satisfied" will be a failing grade for not only the dealership, but also your salesperson.

If you are unable to answer "Completely Satisfied" on any of those questions, call your salesman and go over your problem. If he did as good a job as you say, he deserves a top grade on this survey.

Yeah......my business manager emphasized that a bit more than my salesman did, but they both did a top notch job (it took a lil bit, but the bus. manager was able to hook me up with GMAC financing at a great rate.....considering it's my first new car and have no credit history outside of student loans)
