Extended Warranty Question..
I have read that I have the option of purchasing an extended warranty on a NEW vehicle as long as I have not hit 36mo/36000miles or whichever comes first. I know the cost will increase the longer I wait as well.
If I buy at lets say, 11000 miles and 11 1/2 months can I still opt for the 48/80000 warranty or am I limited on the length and terms of the warranty I can purchase? Also can I purchase Major Guard at this point? I was told to shop around and take the best price. Seems the dealer I am working with is trying to get me to take his and told me "You will not get what you want if you wait!!!" I am hearing and reading different opinions on this. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
Get the General Motors Protection Plan.
You can still buy any of the warranty plans up to 36/36, or 48/50 on a Buick or Caddy. Aftermarket warranty companies go out of business on a regular basis, leaving you holding the bag. The GMPP is good at any GM dealer, there's no one to call and verify coverage, it's all online. It clearly spells out what is and is not covered. It's neither the cheapest or the most expensive. You can choose a deductible or no deductible. The deductible is per shop visit. I work with warranty claims all day. Trust me. You and the dealer will both be smiling. No surprises. |

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
Try www.gmoutlet.com
When I checked them for thr extended warranty they were the lowest price. You DO NOT have to buy the factory warranty from the selling dealer, you can buy it from any dealer you want. |

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
Yeah I should have specified I was speaking of GMPP specifically and was told if I don't buy the 48/ 80000 extension at the time of new car purchase, I would be limited to only a max of the 48/48000 extension no matter when I bought it (up to 36/36000) after I drive off the lot. I could by less but no more than the above extension. That's why I was curious. I know with GMPP, GM pays the dealer for the repairs or so that's what I read.

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
Rob,
MrCritical is absolutely correct. Your best bet for extended coverage is going with the manufacturer's plan. I have heard horror stories from people who purchased after market extended protection plans. These companies are less likely to be around during the length of your protection plan compared to your vehicle's manufacturer. Some companies that offer extended protection plans make it very difficult to set up claims. Some are not even open on the weekends so if your vehicle breaks down on a Saturday morning, you may be stuck paying the bill and waiting to file a claim the next week, hoping it will be covered. |

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
I'm with ya guys on that. I will purchase GMPP. I am asking if I wait to buy it, meaning I drive away the day I take delivery and purchase it later. I am told I can purchase it later...up to 36/36000 from any dealer.
I am not talking about an aftermarket warranty company..just GMPP. |

Re: Extended Warranty Question..
Unless they changed the rules recently, I believe you can buy any plan until the basic warranty expires.
And yes, you can buy it from any dealer! Just be sure you're comparing plan for plan, as coverages and deductibles may be different. |
