Thanks be for having connections...25 minutes later a tow truck from town was loading it & me up and we headed for the dealership...instead of grabbing one of the parts trucks, I took a G6 loaner instead...it pays to be a key holder on a late Sunday afternoon!

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

Alot of dealers don't have loaners due to potential liability. They normally have a relationship with Enterpirse or another rental company. If the vehicle has not been diagnosed for an overnight issue (tranny, engine, huge problem, etc.), they won't get reimbursed by GM for the rental. In other words, if you left your interior lights on and the battery died, that's not a warranty issue and you wouldn't be entitled to courtesy transportation anyway. However, if you were sure it was a major problem that would require overnight repairs, you could have rented your own vehicle and get reimbursed by the dealer anyway.

You did the right thing as they couldn't accomodate you anyway and I don't think there would be any hard feelings from your dealer.

I think the donuts are a good idea especially if the service manager has a sweet tooth.

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

When we had overnight warranty work on the Suburban, the dealer gave us a Suburban rental from the local Enterprise. I guess that was pretty good treatment.

BTW the donuts are a really good idea.

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

When I was at my dealership back in 1995 we had some busted a** loaners like a 82 Riviera and 2 1984 Skyhawks. We would give the cars out for warrenty and charge GM, if we were out of cars then GM paid for an Enterprise Rental (I'm guessing GM has a contract with Enterprise). GM require the dealer to help procure a rental car for you, I wouldn't feel to bad about taking the truck if they can't help in a reasonable time frame.

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

You don't owe a dealership any alliance. Truly.

If they don't offer or provide a service that you need, you need to take your business elsewhere. It is silly for them not to provide a rental car program. Even the dealers I know here that don't use their own rentals use Avis or Enterprise.

Right on....

You did the right thing though. Everyone knows what it means when a truck doesnt have reverse, so they shouldnt have even flinched about a rental.

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

Rocky...I just noticed this thread.
You did not do anything wrong. I am surprised that they didn't have a loaner for you.
Do you have 'Rental Cars' on your vehicle insurance?
Sometimes that can come in handy too and it is not that expensive to add.
You have to send in a bill and get reimburse for it but, that is not that bad.
Some insurance companies have a Rental Company 'lined up' so all you have to do is make a call to your insurance company.
Then they will notify the Rental Car company and then you are all set up to go...

You have one of those too? I thought it was a Roadmaster....

What does that even mean? I am confused...

Rocky...I will never go to any dealer anymore that does not give me a loaner for over night work on warranty items. I am done playing 'That Game'.
What you did was correct. Your family comes first in that situation.
I would look into adding Rental Cars to your insurance though.
You never know when you might need it if you are out of town and need to go to any dealer that you are stuck with.
You don't get much in terms of reimbursement money but, at least it is something.
I have used that more then once before. It got me a car (a very small car) to get to work and back for a few days.

By the way...what was wrong with your truck? Did I miss that somewhere?

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

We have two dealers we work with (different product lines), and for warranty service we have always been offered a loaner vehicle, though we have never taken them up on it (we have plenty of vehicles). I cannot imagine the dealership parts dept. not offering to help you out when they know they really need the business. Dealership service dept. are always higher priced than a general mechanic, so they really should focus on not only the vehicle specific experience, the customer relations side of the deal. I do most of the maintenance on our vehicles myself, but for warranty work (or anything to do with AC), I go straight to my dealership service dept. BECAUSE they have focused so much on customer relations. Worth a few extra bucks to know that a trained tech that actually wants my business is doing the work I don't have time for, or just won't do (I hate AC work, scares me.) If your dealership service dept. wasn't willing or able to toe the line, then you have every right to go find someone that will. It is your truck, and you don't owe them anything.

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

I was with out a vehicle for two weeks cause of my dealership
got my truck back on friday, it went in cause the heat was gone
get it back, the heat works, but the steering wheel is on crooked! check engine light is on, and the front end of my truck feels like its gonna seperate from the rest of my TRUCK!!!

They told me a part they needed originally would take a week to get cause its not in america at the moment...for a 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX!!!! A truck made in america and the part is no where to be found? Come on now, thats crazy!!!! So they FINALLY gave me a rent a car today, but they are CLAIMING they didn't touch the steering wheel....but it wasn't crooked UNTIL I brought it here, and the guy was arguing with me....real peice of crap they service guys are

Re: Did I do my service dept wrong?

What does your steering wheel have to do with your heating issue?

Why would the dealer have to touch the steering wheel other than to drive it in to the shop in the first place?

Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Of course, you'll say it wasn't like that when you brought it in but what else would you say?

I'm sure they'll offer to fix it under warranty but try not to give them too hard a time because the other parts aren't available. Sometimes it happens.

I've found the part in several mechanic stores, they were just lying out their ass cause it was around the holidays, so I'm with out a truck for two weeks....but I still managed to work...and it was the 'holidays'

Why did they touch the steering wheel? I got no clue, seems like they don't know what the hell they are doing there, there is no reason for my steering wheel and parts of the car that didn't need to be touched....had to be touched....and they sit there and deny it all high and mighty, hell with them man, the manager of that store is getting a call, I'm severly pissed off right now....this is almost going on for a month now, I keep up with my part of the contract, why can't they keep up with theirs? And the way they talk to people....is really poor....going to the service department shouldn't be like a bar atmosphere where I feel like I'm going to end up getting into a fight with the guy cause he's a jerk

I will tell you if you go into the store with the same ferociousness that is being displayed in your post, you will get nowhere fast.

If you start with the yelling and screaming and pointing fingers, you will get thrown out.

All I was saying is that you have two completely different areas of the vehicle being repaired and it just may be coincidence that they happened at the same time. That doesn't give you the right to blow up in anybody's face.

It's always convenient to blame the dealer, not yourself.

Sorry, I thought I posted it! They replaced the forward sprag, the clutch, and torque convertor. It shifted hard for the first 2 days but now it's fine. Runs like a top!

Does anyone know if they changed the tranny fluid in order to do these repairs? Should I adjust my maintenance if the fluid was changed??

It's quite likely the ATF was changed...maybe not the filter, but the ATF should have been considering those are all internal parts...
