Dealer pricing difference?

Could someone help me out here? I’m ordering a new Buick Enclave and this is my first experience with this dealer. I’m not sure they are not trying a little smoke and mirrors with my deal. The sales manager used GM DealerWorld to configure and price my Enclave. When I accepted the offer (invoice plus X dollars) he then left the office and came back several minutes later with a new sheet generated on GM OrderWorkbench. Here’s what I don’t understand, the Invoice price jumped $716. The MSRP, GMS, and Supplier prices all remained exactly the same on both sheets. What’s up?

^^I would say this, best guess. If the dealer is one who elects to charge ad fees (most do, few don't), then it's a percentage of the MSRP that is calculated and tacked onto the invoice. This could be what happened, because that seems like a typical ad fee...well, based on common %'s and such.

You agree to a price, and then they come back with one that is $716 higher? What was their explanation for that? I'm glad to hear it sounds like you walked out. Could be they were showing you the invoice price before dest. and/or adv. fees, and now when it's time to buy they are using the invoice amount they should've been using all along, which included those fees. Those fees are certainly legitimate and should be paid. The point is they should've been showing you those all along since they are non-negotiable. Are you sure they were showing you the actual invoice, or were they showing you some sheet they had generated?

You could try to negotiate down the amount that you agreed to pay over invoice. I'd hold out until the end of the month.

All this being said..........if you're in the vicinity of invoice on an Enclave you are getting a good deal and it might not be worth bickering about, particularly if you don't want to accept some risk that you could end up empty-handed.

Seems like an accident to me. Am I correct in that the first printout that he showed you was a long list of options with empty squares and pricing? And the second was a list of your selected options with the MSRP, Invoice, GMS, and Supplier prices? He probably realized that he forgot advertising, like others have mentioned, and then he added it in the end. He's still got to close you on the final price, so there's nothing shady about that. I've done it before but I had the privelege of eating it for the customer. Everyone's so quick to assume that they're getting scammed even over a simple oversight.

How many invoices have you seen of vehicles that haven't been built?

Re: Dealer pricing difference?

Now you know what the out the door price should be. Go to a couple other dealers and use this figure as a bottom line. Not unusual for a salesman/woman to come out and ask "what would it take to put you in this car today?" And you are probably on the right track by not being afraid to get up and walk out. Most salespeople know that when the customer gets out of the chair they'd better act quick or it's over.
