Can I turn my SmartBuy in early?

My Vibe Smartbuy ends in May, but I am taking ownership of a new vehicle soon and would like to get rid of the Pontiac asap. I would like to transfer the plates from the Vibe to my new vehicle. The Vibe is well under the mileage allotment and is in great shape. I would like to do this even if I have to make the remaining payments. Will the dealership accept my car "early?"

Re: Can I turn my SmartBuy in early?

Usually two months are forgiven if your buying a new GM vehicle..

Any more than that and traditionally the dealer just buries the old car payment into the new one..

Why don't you see if someone you know wants to swap a lease with you...

How many months left on your smart buy?

A few years back GM offered 6 month amenisty.. then 4 months recently and the latest was like 2..

Not sure of where its at this very moment..

Could be four months..

If your car is due in May? thats 4 months if you take ownership in february? NO matter what they should give you two months amensity minimum on a new GM vehicle.. possibly four if you push them hard..

In the past I've gotten 6 without blinking..

THe car markets dead in the water and if GM can keep you...then they should work with you on your left over payments..

What state are you located. in.?

Re: Can I turn my SmartBuy in early?

The car will be returned to a dealership in VA. I will, despite the fact I like GM vehicles, not be buying another GM this time. I will be getting a used Mazda Protege. If GM had allowed me to extend the term of my Smartbuy, things might be different, however I am no comfortable with the size of my balloon payment.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I will need to make the last 4 payments. This is not so bad considering they are very low. I'd like to turn the car in with only 16k miles on it (24k mile term) so I don't have to insure it or have it sitting in my driveway.

Re: Can I turn my SmartBuy in early?

Perhaps if you actually READ the terms of your GM Smartbuy contract
you would of fully understood and known that you would of been
responsible for all the payments along with the pre set balloon amount
that would of been due at the end of your contract as stated on
the contract(s) you signed........................

Why not make it part of your Mazda Protege deal? Ask the dealer to help you out with making some or all of the remaining payments as an incentive to roll the Mazda.

Is the Pontiacs value greater than or equal to the payoff including the balloon? Maybe the dealer can use it for inventory.
