Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

I think they changed the percentages again, with older cardholders being grandfathered in. The redemption amounts, I thought, were in stone and you couldn't use more than that amount on a car, if you had it. However, reading above about the Acadia, I dont know if this is still true.

MEDIOCRITY: It takes a lot less time, and most people won't notice the difference until it's too late.

Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

Over the years, the perks of the GM cards have just gotten less and less, so for people who still have various older versions (like assumed above, with the Acadia example) they can still rack up quite a bit, and it be usable in terms of rebate cash. My mother has had hers since, I believe, 2001, and it's at least one of the older versions.

But otherwise, the earned percentages seem to have gone down a bit, and just as a credit card alone, the rates and such are nothing at all special.

In it's hay days, it was a great thing, and still is for some...just not much anymore. Lots of people now, since the perks aren't great, just get something like one of the many driver's rewards cards that give you back different percentages on different things, later redeemable with a new car purchase, etc. (like the Citi Driver's Edge card, which is one I have myself).

Hi caddycruiser-

I received a $250.00 bonus back around June. All I had to do was go and drive a new GM car. The bonus is on my earnings until JANUARY 2, 2008! Hopefully my 08 Malibu LTZ will be on the road by then and that bonus will be good toward that lease!

You are right though. Years ago the GM card offered a LOT more as far as earning bonus money. I've had my card for years and have used $7,311.57 in lifetime earnings redeemed on various GM cars. For a while I wasn't using the card because there were NO GM cars that really hit me until the LaCrosse came out. I leased the CXS because every month my points were being wiped off because it had been over 7? years since I started accumulating them. I don't worry about the interest charges because I just make sure I pay it off completely EVERY month! I do use the card for everything- big or small just to build up the $$$$ bonus.

Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

How do you get a GM card? Might be a dumb question but I only buy GM cars and trucks and I even work for GMAC Mortgage so wanted to see if its something you apply for or something.

The "GM Card" is a MasterCard that you apply for like any other credit card. Is that what you meant?

Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

Chase is 'pushing' a card that I haven't seen before. As I understand it, it gives you 3% back on purchases in the 3 categories where you spend the most money in a given cycle. Categories being such as veterinarians/pet supplies, grocery stores, drug stores, etc.. The GM card I have gives me 3% of all purchases if I buy a GM car, but this Chase card gives me the same amount sooner. I have a Chase card that gives 5% on gas, pharmacies, and stand alone groceries plus 1% on everything else.

yea that was my question. I bought a G6 last year and am going to buy an HHR for my mom in about a week. I should probably get this card before that then right?

Yes...it's just like applying for any credit card.

http://www.gmcard.com

Shocked that even someone from GMAC didn't know! But, then again, I guess the mortgage side of things isn't a direct correlation to the vehicle/finance/etc. side.

I really don't know, I think you can find the applications at dealerships, mine is a GM extended family card, offered to GM retirees....... but I know many people that have the card that are not GM employee related.

we've gotten a "gift" of bonus earnings on our GM Card, usually either $1000 or $2000 extra...yet, it's always seemed to happen not long after we already bought a vehicle.
No, I have not received this in the mail.
I've only received an offer from car dealers that would buy back my Chevy or offered a trade for a used or new vehicle.
About $1000 more than the blue book value.

I'm will not mention any name but he's a cool cat:

Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

Get the CC card with GM credits. Also see if you can get someone who works for GM to share their employee discount with you

Re: Anyone get a GM Card Bonus lately?

My stepmother has this card, and considering she hasn't bought a new GM vehicle since... ever, I wonder how much we have on the card?
