Natural gas smell from my car

I have an 07' Monte SS and it seems like after driving for a while and then shutting it off I smell a natural gas odor as soon as I get out of the car. It only lasts for a second and can only be smelled immediately after shutdown for a small period of time.

I have heard of a bad catalytic converter smelling like rotten eggs but this is a very distinctive natural gas smell so much so that I thought there was a leak at my house. It quickly dissipates but I have noticed it at work also so it’s definitely not a dwelling.

It's been my finding that coolant smells like that under some conditions. Look for a leak.

Most natural Gas and LPG is odourless so they have to add something to it to make it smell. Find out what additive is used in your area and it should help you find out where the smell is coming from -it should be a similar type substance.

You may have a small oil leak that is emitting the odor.
