GM Military Discount

Did you guys see the new program for Military personal? The Military discount is now the same as the supplier price. GM now has the largest Military discount in the industry! I think it is a great idea and needs to be advertised.
It started on April 3rd 2008.

Re: GM Military Discount

Why don't they just sell every GM vehicle at GM Supplier price?

Why should a dealer make any money on anyone?

Besides, in most cases, having a Supplier discount limits the "coupon" program you may be eligible for. The supplier deal ain't what it's cracked up to be!

Re: GM Military Discount

Too bad you would have saved more money with the old Military Discount program coupled with the normal rebates. Normally, you could count on a rebate of at least $1000 off for the cheaper vehicles and usually more. Then add the old Military Discount of $500 and you'd have at least $1500 off of any vehicle.

Under the new program, you get as little as $600 off MSRP for a Chevy Cobalt whose MSRP is around $16,000 and $1400 off MSRP for a Pontiac Solstice whose MSRP is around $30,000.

Unless GM comes out with a new rebate program on top of the current military discounts (and they won't, they'll just reduce the military discount to account for the added rebate), this is no deal for you and me. It may be a deal for a struggling American car company, but not the consumer.

GM Marketing Execs may be applauding, but as for me, an American Service Member, I'm insulted. They tried to veil the change with the special log-in required website and neglecting to mention the recently discontinued rebate. The website will make it very easy to veil future changes (read as reductions) to the "special military discounts", now that it is no longer a flat rate.

Wake up GM. At a time when Service Members are dying to protect your rights, you find a new way to guarantee a fat bonus for your execs at the expense of the Service Member.

We are less than 2% of the population. If 25% are diehard GM fans (approximate current market share) and of those one third buy a new car this year, and say the old average discount was a conservative $1500 (combined rebate + old military discount) and the new average discount is $1200 (generous) you take the difference of $300 out of every Service Member's pocket buying a GM vehicle this year and give your execs a conservative bonus of $45 MILLION dollars. Congratulations! You've just lost a customer.

Don't be insulted. It would be an honor to sell any Service Member a Chevrolet. This program should make it easier for you to buy without the haggling. Hopefully you'll end up at a store that will guide you in the right direction. If the regular selling price nets you a lower figure, don't use the Military program.

We dealers aren't exactly thrilled with those big GM exec bonuses either.

Re: GM Military Discount

Too bad a lot of the military personnel can't even buy GM cars overseas. My brother, who bought a Chevy truck while stationed in Germany, said the AAFES auto broker at his base no longer has GM vehicles.

The program just started. There will be rebates on the Cobalt as soon as the end of this month. The military will be treated as a supplier. That is a very good program. There is no reason you should be insulted the Military get respect at my dealer and I'm sure you will be treated with respect everywhere you go to buy a car even Toyota.

Re: GM Military Discount

Here's the thing. GM has a million different programs for a million different types of people. Having said that, I think this new program makes it easier for both the military consumer and the dealer. I am both a GM dealership employee and a member of the military (in-active reserve) and I believe this program actually gives the consumer a FAIR price on a new vehicle. The old program of a $500 rebate lacked a final price for the military member. Thus creating an unsettling feeling for both parties involved in regards to price. Now the military member can focus more on what it is they want to purchase rather than confusing the deal with price.

I am glad to see so much discussion surrounding GM products and everyone on this post should be commended for speaking their minds.

Buick Pontiac & GMC new & certified used vehicles for sale in the Minnesota, Mpls, St Paul area.

I will soon be creating a page within my website specifically for military personal and their families. Hopefully this will help to get the word out.

Re: GM Military Discount

GM pulled out of the AAFES because the brokers were ripping off our service members. This new program is better than anything out there and you can stack it with most current incentives.

In addition, for the service members that are overseas, they can deliver it here in the name of their spouse.
