Customer tries to pull fast one.

Monday:

I get a phone up. Customer says he wants to come in for trade evaluation. He gives me the keys and I have it evaluated. 2004 Toyota Corolla. I always ask if a car is Salvage or rebuild. He says NO. My boss books it at $7,000. He wants it cut back in a check to him and wants to apply none of that to a Vue XE FWD. He says he will think about it and leaves.

Tuesday:
Customer calls me up and asks me to run a lease on a Vue XE FWD, 39 months/12,000 miles per year with $0 down. I give him $299 monthly. He is not entitled to current incentives which is currently $750 for owner Loyalty. He says thanks, he likes the price and will call me back. i assume he is going to start dialing for dollars. 10 minutes later he calls back and tells me he just called our other store and that he was quoted $275. I tell him that was with loyalty which he doesn't have. he says he will call me back.

5 minutes later my sales manager calls me into his office and says this guys wife is on the phone and she wants the loyalty and that he needs to give it to her. he told her there was no way she could get it as they do not have a GM vehicles in the household. She says she will talk to the husband and call me back. Needless to say, I was pretty upset and felt insulted, but i let it go.

She calls back and says they will take one for the $299 if i throw in a sunroof. I tell her about GM rules with GMS and that they are not getting a free roof and again she hangs up, calls me back and says they will take it. She will call me about coming in and getting the paperwork started.

Wednesday:
The husband calls and tells me he wants to come in Thursday at 7pm and that I am not to be with other customers at 7pm. i told him there was no way i can guarentee that and that I will see him at 7 on thursday.

Thursday:
Customer comes in at 7pm. I was not with anyone and we got the credit app filled out and selected a vehicle. They left planning to pick up the car Saturday at 11am. My day off, but i said I would be here.

Friday:
Today the wife calls with the GMS number and she wants to have the check on Saturday. This is impossible as our business office is closed and regardless we have to process the deal to get the check. I told him it would be Monday afternoon befor ehe could have the check. he asks if we do it today if he can have the check. I said fine and rushed to get the deal ready. At first i thought he needed the cash or something right away.

he comes in at 3pm like he said and hands me the title. ITS A FREAKING SALVAGE/REBUILD TITLE! I told him np way we were going to give him $7,000 for a salvage car. he starts arguing with me about how I should have known when I ran the VIN and that all dealers run the vin. I don't know of a single dealer that runs the vin and I told him I asked him and showed him on his trade sheet where I circled straight title. He tells me I just screwed him and that he lost a customer and we will never have business in this town again.

I told him to have a great weekend and showed him the door.

When did he think I wouldn't find out about the title??!? how dumb are people?

LOL! Sorry to hear that you lost a deal, but it sounds like it was for the best. What a jerk! You gotta love the dishonest. Hopefully he'll go back to Toyota and try it with them.

Re: Customer tries to pull fast one.

This is what I want to happen...

Every business in America starts being both absurdly rude and physically threatening to stupid people. And I don't mean petty "oops, brain fart" kind of stupid, or honest-mistake stupid. I mean THIS^^^ kind of stupid.

All these stupid people will take take their business "elsewhere". In theory, a dealership, for example, just lost 90% of its business, as by my rough guesstimate, 90% of the population are incredibly stupid.

But not exactly. The not-stupid people, sick and tired of having every single public outing in restaurants, shops, car dealerships, etc., being totally ruined by this loudmouthed whitetrash element, that there would open up a "boutique" equivalent of nearly every retail outlet. The Car dealers could become "specialist centers" catering to the non-stupid, and can charge for the privilege. not-stupid "haves" would partially subsidise the not-stupid "have nots" in order to allow them to shop in a stupid-free environment.

Stupid, but humble and respectful and polite people would be included in with the not-stupids. This way, coaster.n3rd's experience would have been more like...

I'm sorry, Mr. n3rd. I completely forgot it was a salvage title. When you circled "clear" title on the document, my brain was elsewhere for that moment, and assumed it meant free from liens. I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. May my wife and I reassess the situation and give you a decision tomorrow? I apologize for the inconvenience.

or

I hate to sound stupid by asking this question, Mr. n3rd. But we bought the car used, two years ago. What is a "salvage" title? I know I should probably know that, but the truth is, I don't. And I figure it'd be better to look a little silly up front than a lot silly later on...

God I dream of shopping free from idiots, egotistical and rude "I'm never wrong" types, and scumbags who bring cellphones into fine dining locations. Anyone crass and trashy enough to not understand proper dining etiquette, doesn't need to be sitting next to me at August. He needs to bring his happyass somewhere more befitting of his own kind... like Luby's or Ryan's or Sizzler....

Sucks that you lost the customer, but if he's going to be dishonest about stuff like that, I don't think I'd really want to do business with him anyways.

Not one like that, I would say good ridance. But yeah it sounds like he was trying to pull some bs with you. And what a idiot, like you wouldnt notice it was a Salvage when he handed it over. Mabey he though you wouldnt notice for some reason, or mabey he thought since you had a deal on paper that you were commited and could argue it through anyway! Either way you should have called the short bus to take him home!!!

Re: Customer tries to pull fast one.

Believe me, I deal with crack pots like this all day every day; especailly at where I work.

I work as a Photo Dept. Manager, and it's a law and store policy not to sell and/or copy anything that is or appears to be a copyrighted or professional photograph. It's my job and I can get fired.

I had a lady come in and asked my if we can copy a picture for her. Sure enough, it was a studio picture of here kids and I told her I can't sell or copy the picture because of the law and policy. BUT, on the envelope it was in was the studios website. I told her she can visit that to see if she can get a release form that give her permission to make copies. She said ok and went off. I went back to do what I was doing, and sure enough she was at one of our machines. I saw he read the policy on a sign on the machine, but went straight away to copy it. I tought, I'll tell her again when she's done; there's no point it telling her again (I hate repeating my self when i clearly state things in English).

After helping someone with a camera, she came up to the counter and I said "Again, I can't sell these (the copies) beacause...."and so on. She gets all huffity, puffity saying its a rediculus policy and that it doesn't exsist. I teold her, not only did I tell her prior to making copies, it said it on a sign on the scanner, it says it on the screen which you have to agree to, and there was a brochure right next to the machine; which I read to here. She stormed off.

My point. It's amazing how people..........adults act. They treat us like we have no feeling what so every and our years of job experience mean nothing.
If a customer wants to take there business elsewhere, fine.........don't forget to take your attitude with it. I can go ob, but I won't

What a jerk While it sucks to lose a customer I wouldn't really worry about this moron because he was dishonest from the beginning and all he cared about was himself

Re: Customer tries to pull fast one.

Isn't interesting that they are GMS and they are trading a Corolla? Then they have the balls to ask for loyalty. CSI nightmare.

Re: Customer tries to pull fast one.

I don't think he knew the title was on the ownership. Most people don't. So i guess he thought you guys couldn't find anything and he was getting away with it or you did know and where still offering 7k. I think it was the first.
