Re: Wards Ten Best Engines For 2007

wow...
The 3.6DI motor should absolutley be on there. But where is the 2.0SIDI, is far superior to the 2.0FSI.. I know I have one. A FSI motor that is, and that motor kinda sucks.

I don't know why, but as far as I know no automakers are using that type of engine except in some hybrids. I'm not sure why. Most of my knowledge on engines is from these forums and wikipedia, so I'm sure others who know more could fill in the details.

And it's not even just all the tech it has.

Re: Wards Ten Best Engines For 2008

I know! Right? I EXPECTED the engine to make the list, especially after the LSJ S/C 2.0 EcoTech made it in 2005, I thought FOR SURE this engine with DI would make it... I really want to hear the convo's on why it wasn't chosen.

by allowing the mixture to expand to a larger volume than was drawn into the cylinder, more energy was extracted giving greater fuel efficiency than the Otto-cycle

A cool example is at the link, http://www.keveney.com/Atkinson.html

It's good to hear two of GM engines made the list. Last year, not even a single GM engine made it.

Well, being an owner I'm here to tell you that 3.6 is awesome so I'm glad it made it. If GM can continue to get this kind of press in so many different publications, perceptions are bound to change even if the mainstream media doesn't want it to!

Exactly! Imagine what the MPG would be in the Bu if it had the DI 4 w/o turbo base and the turbo for LTZ. It would blow everyone away in power and economy.

That site is awesome! Those animations are well done, but the crankshaft linkage on the Atkinson engine is confusing. The 6.0L achieves the Atkinson effect with its camshaft design.

Re: Wards Ten Best Engines For 2008

The atkinson cycle is achieved in modern gas engines by using late intake valve closing. Basically the intake valve is open for a portion of the compression stroke and then closes, lowering the amount of air in the combustion chamber. This is another reason why the 6.0 was chosen over the 5.3 because the power would be too low with the 5.3.

Canadians seem to be less anal about people dissing their country. Unless it is someone from the States. Then we get a little pissed. But you would probably find we are the first to laugh at ourselves and poke fun at Canada.
