Volt Already On TV

Volt Already On TV

The highly anticipated Chevrolet Volt is already showing up on TV. During some recent baseball games Chevrolet showcased commercials that have the Volt as the center of attention.

The Volt was unveiled at the 2007 International Auto Show in Detroit last year, receiving extremely high fanfare for it's projected ability to run on full-electric for up to 40 miles. The Volt launched GM's new E-Flex propulsion system.

Production for the Volt is slated to start very early in 2010 as a 2010 model. Insiders have suggested that most of the concept car is staying for the production car design and engineering wise. The only major changes will take place to the interior. Expect the mechanicals of the production car to rival the same specifications that were shown on the concept car; about 40 miles of EV range, 150 miles-per-gallon when running on the gasoline generator.

GM is projecting around 100,000 units per year for the Volt, with pricing to rival in the mid-$20,000 to rival the Toyota Prius. Also expect another E-Flex based GM product just a few months after the Volt's arrival.

Re: Volt Already On TV

Just saw this add on Fox while watching the Sox/Yanks game. Pretty cool and totally unexpected. Are they jumping the gun a little bit with this coming out in 2010?

While driving to NYC this weekend I noticed a lot of Chevy adds talking about fuel economy and electric cars. I forgot the slogan they were using.

So much so that it's almost like they know another manufacturer will have something similiar available and they're trying to let the entire world know they were first.

Well toyota is all about BSing on ads. By having the Volt on TV first it will help prevent toyota from stealing all the credit.

Re: Volt Already On TV

They've gotta convince the naysayers who believe that GM could never produce a fuel-efficient vehicle. After all, Chevrolet isn't exactly known for it's cars. If it takes three years to change a misperception (I think it takes longer), then Chevrolet is right in advertising now.

Yea, it is. They need the guy from the movie voice-overs to do their commercials.

Hey its the guy who plays the grapes in the Fruit of the Loom commercials and the guy in the WaMu commercials!

Re: Volt Already On TV

My take on this, is that it is a good commercial but everyone involved at GM who approved this commercial should be shown the door, GM has proven how pathetic they are, you don't showcase a car 3 years away. I mean, I know it is more on the technology aspect but non-the less. GM's new vehicles are feel old before they are even launched because of the crap they pull of showcasing their vehiles so far before they launch but this has clearly taken the cake.

Or you could see this as GM being 100% confindent that they have the Volt nailed and want to use the Volt as the cornerstone to their turnaround. I'm quite sure they are not the only manufacturer working on this technology so they want to make sure everyone thinks of them when they think of this technology no matter who's car you are looking at. It could be seen as a way of turning the tide of the masses who think GM's cars are behind the times, especially as far as technology and efficiency.
